looking at one of these for a possible next car for the girlfriend. the boot space looks pretty impressive for a coupe, but how big is it really?

what is it like compared to a comparable hatchback of a similar age like a focus or corolla boot? with the seats down do you reckon you could fit 2 adult bikes in there without too much hassle?

finally, what are they like as an everyday car?

thanks

Been having a little sniff around these myself lately because they price has come crashing down in the last 6 months - a year.

Think theyr a good solid motor, never heard much said about them (bad).

i had one for a year mate was a good car.

can you expand on that mate? what about the questions i asked? just want to get an idea if it will be any good for an everyday car for my girlfriend. what kind of mpg were you getting? was it the 140 or 190 bhp version?

yeah the boot was pretty big for a coupe.

not much space for back seat passengers

i had the 140 vvti model climate control , sun roof , full leather , front lip was the top package for the car.

really nice car to drive round town. good on the motor way to could do 220 miles on £15 worth of petrol.

found a pic of it.

do a search on 1.8 vvti engine problems dunc. some had soft bores leading to oil comsumption, pre cats breaking up springs to mind too.

that does put me off somewhat. but seems like all the vvti engines can have the oil consumption problems. the other problems only seem to affect the 1.8 and 2l.

her ep91 uses a bit of oil, but nothing like 1l per 1000miles and hers has done almost 160,000miles ;)

i just dont know what car to get as there just doesnt seem to be anything about that is a reasonable price, practical and decent on fuel consumption

ive had the corolla t-sport 190bhp model for over 2years now and has been the best cars ive owned,

Its been super reliable not had a single problem but its still only on 44k. Servicing and parts is cheap as its the cambelt 140k iirc as its chain not rubber. With the back seats down i managed to get a bike in the back no problem, Im getting around 29mpg around town and about 35mpg on a run but still manages to put a smile on your face when hitting lift at 6200rpm and revs to 8750rpm.

The facelift is the one to get as they just look a million times better

ive never had to top the oil up it doesnt use any what so ever but its still fairly low miles.

But i suppose it like most cars it depends if they have been looked after or not.

yeah, would definitely get the facelift one if i was going for the tsport. a little more expensive and not as many about though :(

think i shall have to go for a test drive. problem with the oil consumption is you dont know if it will have the problem until you have had the car for a bit.

I like those cars wanted to get one myself but decided to go for Glanza... don't know why....
Civic has bad oil consumption as well by the way. But I think it depends on the oil as well.

keep an eye out for a low milage one there's quite a few around.

We paid a little extra and got one from a dealer and got 1years warrenty included for piece of mind just incase something happened.

yeah. looking to spend around 4k, would spend a little more if it was spot on of course. will be looking after the winter. will get her ep91 through the winter and then start looking in the spring. but if something popped up beforehand we would just go for it

Hi, my Dad bought one of these, one of the last production models. He has had no issues since owning, had it a few years now, although obviously not drivin hard at all.

There was some corrosion issues with the alloys that looks to be quite common, however he checked with his dealer and they replaced all the alloys free of charge under a Toyota corrosion warranty.

The car is serviced on time by the dealer, and there have never been any problems.

The interior is mint. The boot is pretty big as I remember him picking up a load of roof insulation when it was on offer in b&Q and getting a load of it in there.

Enough space in the rear seats for 2x Ompaloompas. But its not too bad for a coupe.
