back passenger caliper seized??

right, since the frost, my car fucked, the back caliper seemed to have seized on, i had to drive it back to mine, which was about 1/4 mile, and by the time i got home, the alloy was roasting. anyways. i stripped it off, bled it through abit and seemed to free the piston up, anyways it happened again tonight, it seems to happen when i reverse it just gets stuck.

is this a common thing? and will i need to get a new rear passenger caliper, or is there a way to fix this??

cheers

Sure its not just the handbrake ?

I had a bit of bother with mine the other night the back right wheel was sticking.

it does sound like the handbrake tbh. i have had a similar problem with my car an have had to pretty much disconnect the handbrake to fix it.

seems to me that there are a few people with the same problem?
is this a common fault amongst starlets then?

i'm replacing my cables in the new year! to be honest they've been sticking for a while so its my own fault that they've got this bad!
at least i'll learn from this!

when it freezes i NEVER put on my handbrake, if your on a slope than leave it in gear.

its not really the caliper that freezes on as the heat coming of it when stuck is immense.

It is your handbrakecable being frozen so it pulling on your rear brakes the whole time.

You can check this easily, just try to pull on your handbrake, if it goes without any resistance it because it's already stuck on.

NEVER put on your handbrake when it freezes

loosening means jacking the car up removing the wheel and hitting the handbrakecable carefully with a hammer to break the ice thats formed inside of the housing.

it aint the handbrake tho, i can see the handbrake parts on the caliper, and they are releasing fine when i put the handbrake on and off. so im pretty sure it aint that. ive had the caliper off twice now, im just going out into the garage to pull the other side of to have a compare with the two off them, to see how i get on.

i tried the handbrake, and its coming on and off like normal, it seems like it is the caliper, the heat coming off it is pretty serious, as i was just reversing down the drive in the ice, and the alloy was just about to hot to touch, i had to take it off with gloves on lol.

cheers for the replys

Its the weather seizing it just dont park it on the handbreak.

yeh ive not done that now, the first time im sure it was the handbrake, as the lever was shocking, but now im not sure its the handbrake, cos ive not had it on this time, and its done it.

it only seemed to come on once i started reversing the car last nite.

rite, ive been at it again now, i managed to pull the handbrake cable a little, but now its loose, and then press the brake, the disc then seizes again. and i can only loosen it with a swift whack on the caliper with a little hammer. im assuming this aint normal.

so does this seem like the caliper piston is fucked?

cheers for any replies.

it is common, it happend 2 my mates gt...! wat we did was take the caliper off completly and submurged it in oil for a few hours, it may not be the piston and often its not try it!!

yeh, i'll give that a shot, just the caliper seems old-ish, so is probably shafted.

can the brake lines be removed and refitted, aint looked at it like that, just i will have to remove it to overhaul it or fit another.

cheers
