now that i think about it, i think ive experienced something like this, if i turn key to quickly it seems to struggle to start sometimes, then its start and run badly for a sec. I thought it was fuel pump not priming up quickernough. But just a thought.

yup, sounds like a similar problem mate! ive changed the fuel pump as well as fitting a new fuel filter, fpr and injectors and it made no difference!

next time it does it hold your key dont flick straight to starter motor as if your waiting for glow plugs lol im sure it works for me. :)

but then mine dont do it that often.

ive tried this a few times now and fingers crossed its been starting better. its hasnt been 100% but its been alot better!

ill keep trying it just to make sure its not a fluke. god knows why it would make a difference though!?!?

i did think about that but its a right bastard to get too. ill try the cts and then if that has no effect ill try and get that relay off and replace it with a new one. ill get one via work for nothing!

If you do replace the pump relay, make sure it's the correct type. As the relay is switched by the ECU, it's likely to have some form of voltage spike protection built into it like a diode or resistor. You should be able to tell if it has by looking at the labeling on the outside of it.

just an update. been taking lawrences advice on turning the ignition on then leaving it a few seconds before starting and it seems to do the trick. its still not 100% but it starts and only kinda hesitates for a second before running fine, its not running like crap and stalling or anything like that anymore.

like i said, could be coincidence but seems odd to say the least!

not sure if makes sense...cud it possibly be a fuel pump issue by waiting a couple secs there is enuf time to prime? (ah crap now i read above u had changed pump etc..but still worth a try with the pfc check)

also dont u have a powerfc on the other gt..? if so it cud be a bit helpful in just connecting it and do a sensor check..anything out of range/not functioning will show up

fuel pump only primes when cranking so wouldnt be that!

i would plug the power fc in but it would be a nightmare to remove from my other GT that i really dont want to attempt it at the moment as i think its more hassle than its worth tbh

been a while but finally got a few spare mins when it wasnt raining or snowing and did the 5 minute ect sensor swap over.

think i have found the problem. the old sensor broke in half as soon as i cracked it with a socket to remove it. the connector part was barely hanging on. must have been a bad connection.

the cars exhaust fumes smell different now, less fuelly.

hopefully the car will start perfectly now and should get some better fuel economy and performance too ;)

massive thanks to mark for the sensor :)

yeah, she drives the same as before. gave it a bit of boost etc and seems fine. must have just been contacting so somtimes when you measured the resistance it was fine.

thats the second damaged sensor ive found on that damn car. the person who fitted the new engine was a bit of an animal!

like i said, noticeable difference in the smell of the exhaust, just time will tell if its cured my problem but im sure it has.
will be nice to get some better fuel economy out of the old girl though ;)

i was a bit premature with this. obviously caught it when it was randomly being ok :(

its now playing up again, same as before, no change.

my dad suggested i change the fpr, i have the stock one off my first GT that i know works ok so will give that a bash. really am running out of ideas!!!!

Have you got a fuel pressure gauge you could chuck on there so you can get some idea of fuel pressure when cranking and after initial start up?

I wasn't confident with the coolant sensor being the cause of the issue, it just didn't make sense, particularly after you confirmed it's resistance reading was good when the starting issue occurred.

just had yet another look at the wiring around the iginition barrel as it looks iffy to say the least. there was the wiring that was for the ignition originally, then a short extension piece, then a turbo timer adapter. was a little bit chopped about too with other bits added on for some piaa lights and shit.
removed it all and will see what happens.

the short extension piece had the wiring cut to go to the immobiliser but wont worry about that atm until i can diagnose the problem.

i dont get what the extension piece is all about, it has no point apart from having the alarm wired in there. has proper plugs and that???

problem is still there :(

its such a pain in the ring. im gonna throw on my stock leads. they are ancient but ive had trouble with magnecor before so ill eliminate that being a problem, just incase!!!
