Well had another quick look at the motor today and noticed only one of the selector cables moving when changing gear (closest to bulkhead), silly question but are both supposed to move as now im thinking one of them as snapped somewhere possibly?

that is a common problem. if it is snapped, thats your issue. normally it goes really stiff and then breaks the cable

Thanks for the reply.

Ive checked the gear selectors/linkages by putting it in every gear and checking the position of the levers to see if they moved and all seems well, although I havent had somebody checking while ive changed gears at the same time. I noticed the top lever (closest to the bulkhead) didnt really move position but I will check properly later with somebody. The bottom one seemed to be the one doing all the moving, but im not too sure.

We all should have picked up on this earlier.

Its all good weejohn, always the simplest things are overlooked. I only thought of checking as I was reading through random threads (mostly 5e conversions) and came across somebody mentioning a similar problem and that they had a broken cable. Thought to myself that theres surely only so many things that would stop a gear being selected. Lucky really as I was debating to buying a gearbox

Edit: What would be the best way to check them? Is it a case of taking them out and checking or is there a quicker way?

Move the shifter while someone looks under the bonnet, check the levers move both ways when going 1st to 2nd direction and both ways going across neutral.

1 lever moves in both directions when you move the gear stick one way, the other lever moves in the other.

Just managed to have a look, the levers are both working (one moving one direction, the other moving both). Is there a chance that the sugar cube (?) thing might have just worn really badly and the case of swapping for a different side?

Other than that I can only assume the selector within the gearbox has gone :(
