Damaged compressor wheel fins, any power loss

right i fitted the wrong oil pump to my GT and i tought i had blown the hybrid turbo ,anyway took the turbo off today and one of the fins had broken off and got wedged between the housing and the compressor wheel easy fix,now every fin on the turbo is broken aswell ,the car still pulls like a train and i'm not sure if there is any difference or power loss ,will there be any power loss with broken compressor wheel fins ,because if there isnt i might not replace the compressor wheel , altough i think one of the oil seals may be leaking as i've had a few small puffs of blue smoke

i would say that if the fins are broken that it must affect the efficiency of the turbo and its balance as well........how much these are affected will depend upon the amount of damage:cool:

And you might be taking a serious amount of risk. Still producing power does not mean it is still 'all okay'.

You really dont want to be running your car at all with a damaged compressor wheel which is as bad as you say, it could completely come off at any time!

The unbalanced spinning of the damaged wheel could cause it to tear itself apart mate. The remains could be lethal to your engine in the wrong circumstances.

Can't recommend driving the car until you get them sorted.

what hybrid is it? i recentley had a tongs G spec fuck up on me and it was anightmare looking for a wheel

it's speevisions hybrid,it's my own fault putting in the wrong pump when i was rushing,Sam stocks his compressor wheels though ,always top customer service with him

It will need balancing aswell mate.

i know it will mate but i wont be doing it as i dont have the cash ,i have heard of people rebuilding theres without balancing them so i'm going to chance it ,to be honest mate i'm nearly half considering selling up as it is just money down the drain all the time

After reading your first post how come fitting the wrong oil pump has caused compressor wheel damage? What you are describing sounds like impact damage.

Low oil pressure would cause the shaft within the turbo to pickup on the bearings and score the shaft until you got too much play and oil could slip past the seals.

i had to replace the wood ruff key as the crank was wobbling ,me and my friend were doing the job ,the crankshaft pully was wedged on the crank and when trying to remove it we cracked the oil pump ,i was in a rush to get the car fixed for the irish tgtt meet ,i tried for hours and eventually got a glanza oil pump thinking it was the exact same, but i did'nt notice the slight difference ,We installed the glanza oil pump ,brought the car out and tried to drive full boost and f**ked the turbo up ,lucky enough the bottom end was saved ,the turbo was starved of oil ,now the turbo seems ok except the compressor wheel is f**ked every fin is broken on it and the odd puff of blue smoke which to me means the oil seals are damaged, plan is to just replace compressor wheel and oil seals

Oil pumps i believe are the same between glanzas and ep82 or 5e. The difference is the o-ring around the pump. Some have the o-ring on the block and some other on the pump.
To me sounds like something was sucked in the turbo damaging the blades.

I have use what you have done many times and never had a problem. My own built has a non o-ring pump also. (oem had o-ring). Do you have any leak around the pump or oil lamp on when the prob happened? If not then oil pressure should be there and the reason for the damage blades is somewhere else mate.

You know that the one with sealant dosent have the outer gear...and that you need sealant around the outer gear where the o-ring should be..arent you?
