as far as im aware its so you can adjust the timing as with most tuning only half the job is done if you get the fuelling correct. with correct timing you can unleash even more power and make the car even more reliable in the process.

i thought as much, but as its a distributor you adjust it manually not electronically like a coil pack, so would would b the benifit of havin the harness in?

as dac69er said. the ecu still controls the timing to an extent wether its a distributor or not, if u buy the harness, you can advance and retard timing at certain revs, where as if you just tune it by moving the distributor, then you havnt got that same control over the ignition, equalling less power, and a less better tune

its a bit like using a fpr to adjust the fuelling. it only adjust the bas pressure of the fuelling, either more or less throughout the whol rev/boost range.

with adjusting the timing via the distributor you either have more advanced or retarded timing throughout the whole rev range. if you advance 1 degree it will be 1 dgree advanced all the way through.

with adjusting it via the ecu you can alter the timing in respect to engine load, revs and boost to obtain maximum power and reduce knock.

no its not 100% necessary as you can reduce knock by lowering boost and altering the fuelling, but then you reduce your max power and also the driveability of the car. with the timing correct you can get good power as well as good driveability and better fuel consumption.

basically its all good!
