Engine Bay Respray

Hey lads, I would like to freshen up my bay while the engine is out and ideally respray it. A good friend of mine has offered to wrap the car for me - just need to decide on colour - so thought it would be a good idea to do a make over on the day.
Just a few questions beforehand:

1. Can I get away with masking everything up or would it be wise to remove as much things as possible in the bay?
2. Prep wise, I was thinking give the bay a good clean, key it with some sand paper or scotch brite pads, followed by some primer then paint?

Please let me know your thoughts?

Thanks

Good topic.

I have never had the courage to attempt this. Would imagine stripping the bay would be easier than masking the bay. There's a lot of stuff lol.

That’s the thing Jay… my bay looks like spaghetti junction at the moment . The thought of removing all those hard pipes etc on the fire wall gives me anxiety lol. However I can’t see any other way to tackle it properly without removing them lol?
This was a really good video about it but again he seems to have removed all
the pipes and just masked the wiring harness.

Stripping match VS masking tape shenanigans
Either way will take time but in the end totally worth it.
My bays pretty shity looking and when the engine is out will probably think about tidy up :)
