engine light popped up

right, today i took a few parts off my V to clean the rocker and paint it. i removed the intercooler and all piping.

while i had the car in bits i decided to test fit an open filter just to see if it gave any improvements. i took it out for a drive, seemed to be running well with no problems. then the engine management light came on. car was still doing fine. so i got back home and checked everything i had removed, all fine. i then took the open filter off and went back to standard air box. took out for another spin and there was no light. drove it quite hard to test it and still no light on. so all seems fine.

anyone got any ideas as to why it may have came on? does it come on when you are nearing fuel cut?

any helps cool. thanks.

Sounds like you've mildly hit fuel cut with the open filter inducing boost creep.

Run a diagnostic check on the ECU and check for fault codes mate.

u must have hit fuel cut @ some point.. do u have a boost guage?

due to the less restrictive filter installed u must have hit higher boost (factory safety limiter comes on) & then the engine management light comes on..

thanks. i am kinda on the limit with boost as im running 0.8 bar on my guage. may be slightly higher. and im sure i seen it creep to 0.9 at some stage today. that must be it then. the filter may have just pushed me to close to the edge. didnt feel as though i hit fuel cut at any stage though, and ive hit it before once by accident so i know how it feels.

the light comes on just a bit before fuel cut actually happens it gives u a momentary warning to back off, thats what my experience has been anyway, if you see the light come on and keep pushing then itll cut,

id stick back on the old filter and try again and im sure itll be ok

does the light still come on if uv got a fcd fitted
in past experience bypassing the solenoid can make the management light come on

That is your exact prob there, has soon has it touches 0.9 bar the light comes of it shud turn of after a few secs or wen u tun igination of then back on it will disapear but its a pre warnin sort of.

thanks lads. i must have been right on the limit with fuel cut.

think i may re fit the filter and turn the actuator down a little.

Ive had simila problems,my mate took off my HKS filter the other day whilst we was cleaning
Then a few days after the EML came on,there was no loss of power,when i stop and turn the ignition off it goes off,then a few days after it comes back on

Ive had this happen to me,so i turned the ignition off and it went,it comes on now and again,its a pain in the arse
