if ur going rebuilding to oem spec bearings then the bearings are stamped with there nr on them so take them out 1 by 1 and write it down
on the conrods its easy its stamped on the caps

clearances and torqspecs are easly found with a search

search for torqu setting the rest will come up

That's Colin, obviously it's very daunting having never done one before, now all I need is a engine

ok seeing u never don 1 before make sure aaaaal is very clean !!!!!!!!

if u want it more easy buy a 5e the bearing markers are stamped in the crank

Nah I like a challenge lol it's ok manage to source a cheap engine with suspected bottom end knock.

Yeah thought that, there is one question though, how do you know what head gasket I need, obviously if it's been skimmed before I might need to get a thicker one ?

is there any differences in engines wallace? eg torque specs tollerences ext?

nothing worth worrying about. a few minor differences like thermostat housings, oil filter housing/adapter, but the main engine rebuild itself will be the same between all the 4e and 5e engines.

another tip. when stripping the engine down, take pics, loads and loads of pics. which plug goes where etc. etc. first build i've taken over 200 pics and whenever you are unsure, have a dig through the pics

that is excellent advice -------sensors, plugs, clips, vacuum hoses, cables, brackets, etc.....this information will come in very handy during the rebuild

or if you have a friend with the same car, then you kinda covered

The boys are right! Take pictures, more pictures and then some more pictures.
I like to set the dat and time correctly on the camera too that way you can go back and forth through the pictures and know the order of which you broke down the engine.

Freezer bags and a fine tip perm marker also come in handy for cataloging
