engine run dry and bottom end gone

Hi looking for some help bought a ep82 needing a bottom end repair Took engine out today it has been run dry no oil atal hes put a breather filter on rocker cover and there is oil caked all over engine i asked him and he reckons it started spraying out of it after bottom end went under load whats your views on that have you ever seen that before lol sounds odd to me about 1 mug full of oil came out of sump so no oil would of got to the head dont no how long it was run like this for the engine runs but knocks badly any advice or anything else i should do other than bottom end or should i just drop another engine in thanks

As Dan says there could be quite a lot of damage done both top and bottom end. Also if the turbo wasn't seeing oil it could be goosed too.

Would suggest a total strip down and inspection of the engine and see what you find. Might have got lucky but it doesn't sound it's been a fortunate engine so far.

You might find a fresh engine will work out easier/cheaper in the short term.

I agree with Jay on a fresh engine. Rebuilding a goosed engine like that is a risk. As you need to put 100% trust in engineers that will cut the crank line bore the head etc.

Just strip it down first and decide then :)
PS: the tool you need for the cylinder head bolts won't be found in a standard tool box. It is a 9mm and not 10mm spline.
