EP82 will not rev up..

Hi guys!

Firstly, this EP82 4EFTE swap ran perfectly in my paseo, now I have switched it over to my tercel, but turned it into a 5EFHTE.. 5EFHE, CT9, custom mani, 4EFTE electrics

I have had issues with the car having no throttle response. The moment i try to open the throttle above idle it will bog and die if i hold throttle in that position..

The only way to make the car rev up is by very very slowly cracking the throttle a small amount, it picks up revs slowly and gradually this way.

The plugs are black when i take them out and the car sometimes will not start due to being flooded with fuel.

Watching the boost gauge, i have 18 or 19psi vacuum at idle, one i open the throttle it drops to 0 psi vacuum and the engine will not gain revs, let go of the throttle and it will chug and kick back to idle or sometimes die.

I have 2 turbo MAP sensors i have tried, the original ST185 3S sensor and the EP82 sensor i just bought.. both function in my non turbo 5EFE and were proven to work prior to me using them on this swap.

I have tried to adjust the 3-wire TPS, maybe i will try again, but i was certain that it was adjusted correctly, according to WEE-jon's tutorial.

Now, I have tried to run the engine in my driveway using a 5EFE non turbo MAP, and it will rev up a lot better, with very little to no hesistation.. Even will respond to WOT.

I have a wideband o2, and will hook it up and observe my AFR's.. but just looking for some advice!!

I have also made sure that the harness is not damaged and the MAP and TPS, along with other sensors are hooked up to the ECU.. like i said, ran in my PASEO before..

Thanks guys, any other questions i'd be glad to answer.

I have that exact same issue, but only from cold and only for the first 20-30 seconds of running! After that the engine acts as normal. I have refitted my exhaust now it has a socket welded in it so the next thing for me to check is the afr's

I am running a 2 plug 4efte ep82 ecu,

The car warms up normally and into the 180-200*f range and then the fans come on.. And i took EGT readings with a laser temperature gun i have and i am getting these readings

Cyl1: 300, 500, 500, 300, degrees fahrenheit. with a log manifold, should all egt be the same on each runner or is my over fueling causin very cool EGT on cyl 1&4..

Currently running stock 4e 295cc injectors, with plans of installing rx7 460cc's to handle the compression and boost.. Just want to hVe car run well before i mess about any more..

So i readjusted the TPS, it's good now, but cannot get the car to fire up and idle on the 4EFTE map sensors, it will fire and idle on the 5EFE map sensor without issue.. AFR's are at 9:1 at idle and i tried to drive the car down the road but it was way too lean to move practically, the AFRs were stuck right in at 20-21:1...

took the plugs out and they are white, of course.

Is it possible that something within the ECU has gone wrong? When i bought my paseo with this motor swapped into it, the motor failed the first day I had the car, under severe load, only at 9psi, but i melted a #3 piston quite badly.

I had initially blamed the OEM manifold for the restriction, but with these backwards odd AFR's im having i'm thinking something is wrong in the ECU...

The 4efte ecu will under fuel the 4efte engine for a start, I think you need to try another 4efte map sensor.

Get more fuel into it then and see how it goes, I have no answer for why it idles on the 5e and not the 4e map sensor. The 4e reads negative pressure the same as a 5e would, it reads positive pressure as well just.

I am using an old used toyota fuel filter and pump is original stock from this tercel.. I may try to check fuel pressure, but i cant explain
My 9:1 afr at idle.. Way too rich for stock tune?

Might be worth checking the water temp sensor, its the 2 or 3 wire plug on the thermo housing. If its faulty it can cause idle and running problems. There has been threads posted before about checking it, try the search button in the technical sections to see if you can find some.
