Ep85

launching with big power requires at least soft compound 888s all round- if you do it will do a 1.9 60ft time , comparable to a scooby but no match for a well setup evo.

doesnt matter if you have 400hp, that will be a laggy turbo so you wont be launching with much boost anyway(unless you have proper launch control with a standalone ecu)

for having open diffs the car does grip extremely well and handles the power but understeer is still a problem like any other starlet. suspension setup hard at the back can minimise this, and sticky tyres.

one member has mentioned there could be a rear lsd made to fit for the car but it hasnt been tested yet to my knowledge. the standard 4wd front diff is a wierd looking article so probably no front lsd will ever be possible.

the gearbox is all gt spec(as i now have put a gt first gear in mine to keep turbo spooling in second) so handles the power.

cheers mate what times are you running on the strip, with what setup?

how much were your collies mate if you dont mind me asking?

The MeisterR Zeta-R Coilovers for the EP85 is £779 RRP.

The front is pretty much the same, but the rear had to be completely redesigned.
It have different springs, different dampers, and different lower bracket (pretty much a completely new setup) than a standard EP82/91 Starlet Coilovers.

I tried to reduce the rear length as much as I can, but to lower it anymore will require so much reduction in damper stroke travel that I won't be happy with it.

The EP85 specs are pretty acceptable, but it is gear more toward performance than slamming it.
The EP82/91 have more room and therefore it will provide the ability to slam the car with plenty of damper stroke travel. :)

so all my anti roll bars and lower arm bars will fit on?
How much bhp are you running mate?

ep82 anti roll bars will not fit due to the prop shaft up front and the rear setup its completely different. the ep85's come with a rear arb but im yet to see an ep95 with one fitted oem, but it looks like you can buy the parts from toyota to fit it.

the rear arb is a strange one. i noticed that the early ep85s had a thickish rear arb. the later ones, like mine, have a really thin one and like you said, the ep95s dont have one at all????

last year did a 12.9 with tdo4 running about 270hp. these car arent everyones cup of tea, if you like sleepers it could be for you, main plus for me is i can play with it in the wet, when i had a 200hp gt before it was pointless in the wet, and it rains a lot here:(

box is obviously unique as it has an output to the transfer box. internals are basically gt stuff with a 4wd diff. 1st gear is really low though, for hill climbing.

ive raced one before on the (drag strip) on my motorbike it was someone from down south and it was not running alot of power 230bhp or so and it shifted. but ive never realy seen and looked at one from a buying point of view. how short is first gear mate? you know what ratio it is? what speed can it achieve in first?

1st gear is 3.5, gt first gear is 3.1. problem there is that with a really big turbo you fall out of the cooking zone going from 1st to second(i found this out with a vf35)

if you go no bigger than a td04 then the 1st gear isnt an issue. as i now have the gt 1st gear im going big turbo again. and 8k rev limit to help

ive got a straight cut gear box for my gt, so would all the internals swap straight over into the ep85 box? i appreciate all your help mate, ill be running a big big turbo on a 5e

iv been in the same boat for a bit but other than the wet weather issue im not convinced that an ep*5 starlet will out handle a well setup ep82/91 due to the lack of well sorted lsd's and arb's etc. would be good to take one of each running simlar poer on a track and see who posts the better time?? you cant setup rear discs on the ep*5's either so surley the stopping power isnt as good wich is a factor in cornering etc
