What could cause excessive crankcase pressure and what would the symtoms of this be?

Breather's not functioning as they should, this could be down to blockage, hot gasses not able to push themselves out which will build up pressure and result in blown seals, oil leaks and smoke. Faulty PCV valve would also cause this, but sure you not running one! Worst case scenario is way too much gas getting by the piston rings (some always does hence the need for a evacuation system) and causing excessive build up of crankcase pressure. Maybe wack a PCV valve back in and see if it is better pulling the gasses out!
