I have read that its normal for steam to come out the exhaust but it also makes this cough/putting noise... is this normal?

Another things is high tickover... 2000rpm!!! it drops when i have the lights, hazards, windows going up and down - is there an idle adjustment? ideas??

Last thing aswel is the rad fan isnt coming on, ive checked the fuses and cleaned the connectors but it still wont come on - my asumption is the thermostat switch? if so where can i get one form and where are they located? FYI the fan works when hooked direct to 12V

i have the same problem, my GT starlet was idling at 2000RPM i cheked a few hose and saw some burned ones, ireplaced them now the car is idling at 1400RPM but if i turn on my lights it begins idling a little higher, could it still be a leak because i cheked all my hose???

What exhaust do you have??? i have just fitted a full S/S exhaust an have alot of steam now but i put this down the the cold of the S/S warming up...

As for idle it should really sit about 800 to 900rpm, try adjusting ya idle control valve or giving it a good clean...

i had a go at cleaning the ICV following the above procedure you provided but the revs still sit at 1900. How do i go about checking the temp sensor? is this the sensor attached to the rad fan as my fan does not turn on either?

I have had a scout about and there is a hissing noise coming from the intercooler... is ity simply a case of filling wit a bit of weld or is it a replacement needed?
