FAO Mods - New Member Issues

Lads,
A mate of mine has been trying to sign up for the past couple of days, but he keeps getting an error saying: "Sorry, registration has been disabled by the administrator"

I've told him to do the usual...delete cookies etc, but still no luck.

Can anyone help with this?

Registration was switched off temporarily to blocked some spam bots, we'll let you know once it's back on.

Yeah, we were seeing quite a lot more spam than normal recently so I switched the registrations off as a precaution.

Registrations are now back on but each will need to be manually activated to limit spambots. I'll monitor it over the next week or so and keep you all posted.

Just thought I'd update this.

I'm still manually activating accounts which has drastically reduced the level of spam posts. You may notice the odd post or two from previously acquired accounts (this happened the other day for example) but as these users become evident we can hit them with the admin axe.

Obviously our Chinese spammers can see this and aren't happy. They have started trying to hack real user accounts in desperation. This looks like they are trying to guess peoples passwords so you may get an odd email from TGTT telling you someone is trying to log in. Don't be alarmed, most passwords are secure so long as it's nothing obvious.

There is a special place in hell reserved for these people. Hopefully in front of the queue-jumpers and right behind the cyclists.

Yeah, it's still ongoing mate, they look for a weak password and once they have access they will PM real users with links to the standard penis enlargement websites.

Obviously none of us need that sort of shit as we're all hung like donkeys
