Ahh good point. I forgot the ability to rev is based of capacity.... :slap:

the 4e rod is 118mm long from centre to centre, the 5e is 130mm both with same bore size. So 4efte has a 77.4mm stoke to a 74mm bore. A 5efe has a 87mm stroke to a 74mm bore. The way the 5e works is not as "square" as the 4e, So you will not only have increased piston speed but also a lot more pressure on the crank. I can draw you a diagram if you like. Maybe throw in some pretty colours for you.

Also, the 4efte is 1331cc the 5efe is 1497cc so its a 166cc difference. If you choose to use lower comp piston in your 5e this difference will drop again. Hope the extra cash iwas worth it for you.


Exactly. These guys seem to churn out an 11 sec starlet almost monthly. They answer pm's and give contless amounts of info out on how to do it. show some respect.:teach:

Ive just edited my above post with some more info for you. Hopefully that clears up. Let me know if I still need to break out the crayons.

Cheers Harry I think when I worked my spec out it was 1577cc or there abouts matey. I paid no extra cash for the 5e either really got it cheap in fact.

I wanted to go 5e just so the Turbo spools slightly sooner and hopefully even sooner again with some good head work and cams just chatting to the cam company to see what is best to use.

You wouldn't want to be using anti lag for street driving, prob get arrested and would need a new turbo every month.

lol. over here you dont get problems with loud noisy cars...but to get a new turbo every month thats another story.

Thought anti lag could be proggrammed over a switch to give me the option of turning it on/off. that way I could turn it on really when I need it or else i can just drive the car normally.

Yeah tbh, the extra few CC's doesnt make much of a difference.

I'm sticking with my forged up 4e, td04 setup. much more power than that and it would be a right pain out on track, where i like to take my GT.

Its cool to chase figures but after you have that printout it will be like "ah shit, i cant actually use my car anywhere, but i can go down the pub and say my GT is a squillion HP"

I'd rather have a useable car! :p

bottom line is ladys, this guys bought a turbo which is no good for his application.. sounds like you want something more for fast road use, with a usable power range..

a gt28rs with .64 rear is a great turbo for road use on a 4e, i ran one on my 4e with stock cams and no headwork and id probably say its the biggest turbo you would want on a road going 4e starlet. if the ''godzilla'' is t28 flanged then it will bolt straight on to your manifold too.

this threads just turned into a 4e vs 5e thread :homer:

kon and keith have been playing with 4e and 5e for years, you just buying a 5e dont buy you the experiance to go with it.

wait wait.. ur missing out on the point buddy, the problem is not the actuall cc's which are minimal, but the actual stroke length..

as harry very well explained the 4efte is a more square engine, ie it will be easier to get power out of AND ull be able to rev it more, as a square engine is the perfect setup..

now the main problem of the 5e as harry very well pointed out is the bore Vs stroke.. bore is identical, toyota gave the 5e a taller block to get the extra cc's out of it by increasing piston travel... this in turn causes alot more stress on the pistons themselves & on the crank as the stroke is longer.. hence why on the fhe which is a higher compression engine u have tougher rods to be able to take the blast of each cycle without having problems :)

thats why the 5e is not a good engine to rev at high rpms :) if u want a strong drag machine u go for a 4e... u want a circuit//street car u go for a 5e :)

ps Congrats Yet again to Dahna for going even lower today 11.8ET at 110mph & a 60ft 1.72 .. same settings as yesterday on an internally stock engine ;) (never been opened)

11.8!!! qazna lostja tlifta din! i think its the first stock ENGINE that made this time in malta eh!? and 11.8 with dahna as a driver or hussey? btw how the fuck did he done 11.8 and trap speed was 110 only?
