Fuel light just stays on even with full tank of fuel

Okay so i was a bit stupid one day and ran my fuel down till the light was constantly on not where it comes on and off as the fuel swishes around in the tank but since then the light remains constantly on even when i have just put a full tank of fuel in. I havnt done an engine diagnostic would this be my best option to find out the problem ? or is there an easy solution

Its possible the mechanism in the fuel tank has got stuck at the bottom, if you look through the awesomely helpful section there is a guide for changing the fuel pump. This will tell you how to remove the sender unit from the tank and you can look into it from there.

This happened to me and it turned out to be a fault with the instrument cluster but check the pump first. I bought a new cluster off here and swapped over my mph clock and all is well now.
