I gave up smokes a couple of years back, and due to been busy and becoming lazy I gave up keeping fit and after weighing myself tonight I've gone from a fit 11 1/2 stone to nearly 141/2 stone. Any tips advice about getting back into it? Don't want to kill myself.lol went for a 2 1/2 mile jog there and I'm in a heap here. Pushed myself to hard?lol really want to get fit burn off some weight and tone up. Any advice would be great.

Shifting the weight is easy if you have the mental stimulation to achieve it.

- Cardiovascular exercise (Running, rowing, cycling etc.)
- Calorie deficit (Small meals often - e.g 4 x 500 calorie meals)
- Healthy diet (A balance of good carbohydrates, proteins, essential fats and fruit and vegetables)

I recently had same thing happen due to bad leg injury. Meant I wasnt exercising at all but was still eating shit.

I hate cardio so ive been shifting fat by doing intense weight training, i dont mean heavy stuff but just exercising in quick succesion so keeping the heart rate up, jogging with incline, cycling fast rather than for ages as I get bored lol. Diets my main cryptonite, i love the beer and the fryups haha, good luck!

I'll need it, I'm fairly motivated and once I get into a routine I'll stick to it, not bad today thought my legs would be gone this morning. Will head out after work again.

If im cutting then I generally run a keto diet combined with cardio once a day for 45 minutes. Biggest key is your heart rate when doing cardio. Too low and its in effective, too high and your body becomes catabolic and burns muscle tissue as opposed to fat deposits. Maintain a heart rate between 125 and 135 for around 45minutes and it will drop off. I personally use a cross trainer; i'll pop a movie on the psp and it passes by in no time.

With regard to diet, try lowering your carb intake. Foods such as white pasta, bread etc can hold up to 4grams of water for every gram you consume. Try and limit your carb intake to before and after training - Slow digesting 'complex carbs' like brown pasta etc followed by quick digesting carbs 'simple carbs' such as dextrose etc along with protein post training. I avoid pasta and bread as I know how tolerable I am to bloat and weight gain. Its all about trying to see how your body reacts really.

Also, dont get tied down with calorie counting, 2000 calories is irrelevant if you're eating 8 mars bars a day. Keep your protein levels high, carbs relatively low and good fats (omega 3, 6, 9) up. I personally eat 8 meals a day, regardless as to whether im on or off diet, its what makes up them meals that counts.

Some one aloso mentioned High Intensity weight training, this works really well too. Muscle tissue usually takes 3 days to repair itself, all the time you're muscle is being repaired, your body is burning calories.

As others have said, cut down on carbs after 6pm. By all means have carbs earlier in the day(it's just not healthy at all cutting them out) but don't have any at night to save them being deposited as fat.

i went from 16and a half stone to 12 stone dude. i just did work on the crosstrainer, bike or running machine. also the diet thing was difficult for me cus ima fussy eater, but i find baked beans are very good lol. high in protein and low in fat. oh and try not to eat loads of bread if possible, replace it with sumthing else.

and situps, pressups, or leg raises, and the plank on your front or sides are very good for toning your stomach area and strenghthening your core. i regularly look on youtube to find new different excercises lol. just remember though dnt always take too much notice of the scales. if you are a big framed person when u start training u might find u put on weight as muscle is heavier than fat.

Go vegetarian like me!! Although I dunno any lads that are! Good luck with it though and the main thing is do what works for you. At least you don't smoke anymore, that's a huge advantage. Another way of keeping fit is maybe take up something like kickboxing, it's fun and really keeps you fit :)
