The wastegate will gradually creep open as boost pressure builds up, as soon as the wastegate starts to open some of the exhaust gas will bypass the turbo and this loss of gas will delay the point at which peak boost pressure is reached.
An EBC provides the ability to adjust the point at which the wastegate begins to open, this allows you to keep the wastegate closed for longer directing all of the exhaust gas to the turbo. By fine tuning the point at which the wastegate opens will help to reduce the time it takes for the turbo to reach peak boost pressure.
