Haltech - Platinum Sprint 500 vs Platinum Sport 1000

The requirement is a programmable replacement for the stock ECU, in a road car that may see the occasional trackday. My first thoughts were that the Sprint 500 would be ideal, the cost isn't too bad and it comes fairly well spec'd for a entry level ECU. However, I then started to look at the Sport 1000. Obviously the cost jumps significantly, but then as they say, if your going to do it, do it right first time.

So looking down the spec list for the Sport 1000, there are a few points that I'm not too bothered about, such as the anti-lag, launch control, valve timing control, nitrous control etc... it's a road car remember!

The points that have got me thinking are:

•Fully user-definable 32 x 32 mapping ( Up to 1024 points)
•Wideband “Auto tuning” using user definable target AFR table
•EGT fuel correction
•Open or closed loop boost control ( Road speed, RPM or gear based mapping)
•Tuning via TPS with manifold pressure correction

The main benefit I can see is the Sport 1000 32x32 mapping vs the Sprint 500 16x16 mapping, although I'm wondering if 32x32 is really necessary and if 16x16 mapping would be more than enough for what is required?

I'm no engine tuner and have very little experience with aftermarket ECU's, so other peoples thoughts on this would be interesting to hear.

Is the Sport 1000 worth the bigger price tag? or would the Sprint 500 do the job just fine?

Funny this just popped up i had to make the same decision last week lol, my mapper was in.contact with haltech and they said the p1000 was the one for me with the dual vvti in my car and has the 32x32 mapping so i decided to splash out

I've the PS1000 in mine, great piece of kit. That said I think the Sprint will do your job just fine.

Over the both I would go for a link g4 storm dude , I've used both ps500 and ps1000 for ne the link is just more for the money and they come with a 4 bar map sensor

What kind of power are you aiming for?

I've no power figures in mind, I'm just looking for an ECU that can replace the stock ECU and allow a bit of fettling.

Just had a quick look through the spec list of the G4 Storm, it's quite impressive!

Link G4 Storm - Spec

Price wise, it seems to come in between the PS500 and PS1000, so I guess that rules the PS1000 out in terms of value for money.
How easy is the Link software to get to grips with Chris? Is there anything additional that's required or can it be installed using the stock sensors etc... ?

IMO link software is really nice mabby better then haltech really nice things u can do with it too the tec Support is unreal too haltechs is not so good , I've tuned a Yaris t sport turbo on it and it's unreal even has knock control unlike the haltech

The spec says "Knock Control - Requires External Module". Are they referring to the Link KnockBlock G4 or something else?

Can the stock sensor be used successfully, or would the recommended Bosch sensor give better results?
