There's just been another explosion in the Fukushima nuclear plant according to sky news, really hope their managing to contain any radiation!

Yea I heard this too - apparently a Chernobyl-like disaster is highly unlikely, and radiation is 'Well below legal limits' (god knows what that means!)...

The video's are terrifying, have a look at this one...

Also, this is absolutely unbelievable... Chap found 9 miles at sea on the roof of his house...

Well, what a disaster this is.. I felt the earthquake that caused this mess, where I am (Aichi) the quake was quite small but everyone knew that somewhere it must have been huuuge! We get earthquakes all the time so I didn't think much of it until I got home and saw on the news the mass destruction caused. Since that first quake we feel them now everyday, some places feel many in the same day so things do get scary. Infact there was just another this second, whilst watching the news emergency earthquake updates will flash a few times per hour notifying us of new earthquakes.. Besides the earthquakes there are shortages of electric, food and the phone lines are not brilliant. Petrol has shot up in price and the main worry for most people now is the Nuclear power plant. Slowly radiation levels are increasing and if this carries on I'll be escaping Japan. A lot of foreigners have escaped already but they were mostly from the effected areas. Things are a little tense as we all wait for news updates regarding the Nuclear reactors.. I really hope that can be controlled and I hope the earthquakes stop or perhaps they could cause bigger problems.

Nice to hear some news from on the ground (as nice as it could be I guess) - after I read rb69's post I was hoping you'd post up here!

The reactor (as far as out news is concerned) seems to be going well - they're getting power etc back to it... How is it being report over there? Either way, wishing you all the best from over here in Scotland mate.

Cheers mate, there was an update just now saying finally the water has been sprayed on the reactors via the trucks. Hopefully they can begin to cool off, there are a lot of fire trucks up around the plant so I guess if a regular water supply is sprayed on the reactors eventually they would cool off.

Oh by the way, power hasn't made it to the plant yet but will hopefully by tomorrow..

That's good to hear - I seen on the news they had to pull the helicopters out at one point because of the high radiation levels :( I must of picked that up wrong. How much coverage over there are the 'fukushima 50' getting? ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/mar/15/fukushima-50-workers-nuclear-plant ).

I had a look on Google maps to see where Aichi is exactly - looks scarily close to the 'Yahagi River' and 'Isa Bay' on the east coast - was it badly affected by the Tsunami?

Take care (and sorry for the questions...),

Yeah they had the Helicopters dropping water on the reactors yesterday but as you said radiation levels were high so they couldn't hang around for too long. Regarding the Fukushima 50, by coverage do you mean news coverage?

The area's you mentioned were unaffected by the Tsunami, most of the Tsunami's damage occured in the North.
