Hi all,

new to forum. I purchased a 97 glanza 4efte. The following issue: cold start I let it warm up and take it for a drive. As soon as I turn it off and turn it back on after driving it start with a rough idle like a misfire and sputters when I rev it only at low rpms. When I drive it starts sputtering and then goes up the rpms. If I wide open throttle it cuts out and doesn’t want to produce power. Any help is appreciated as I am stumped. Could it be a dirty fuel filter? Any help is appreciated. Thank you

following parts have been changed:

spark plugs
Spark plug wires
Main spark wire
Distributor cap

Yep, could be either of those.

You don't actually need a scanner to check the codes on these, just a piece of wire to bridge the pins:

EFI Diagnosis system description

The ECU contains a built in, self-diagnosis system which detects faults within the engine signal network. When the system detects a fault the "CHECK" engine warning lamp in the instrument panel will illuminate.

By analyzing various signals the ECU detects... https://www.toyotagtturbo.com/community/index.php?threads/efi-self-diagnosis-system.71074/

I will check this tonight. Thank you so much guys for the input. Any chance you guys would know where to source a tps sensor if it were to be needed? It’s a little hard finding them in the US. Thank you

Hi all,

embarrassed to say it. I did a compression check today and while I was taking spark plugs off I noticed 2 were a lot looser than the others. Did my compression test and tightened all my spark plugs back and…. Voila it runs like a champ lol. I appreciate all your help hopefully this issue is resolved.

happens to us all. However that is a particularly odd one to miss as you stated you changed them yourself, Remember that Spark plugs should not be overtightened, Get them snug, and then a 1/4 turn more. same as the oil filter and also the drain plug.
