Help me decide.. is the GT3071 overkill...

Not on a starlet though... i have an mx5 turbo which has been up for sale on here (some of you might have seen it) .. now its in bits ready for an upgrade.

I was looking for a t28 but couldnt find a decent one so instead i have purchased a GT3071 which i did get a bargain on but now im thinking it may be overkill!! I have been told ill get my max boost 12psi by around 4500rpm!!

Now why am i asking on here?? i used to have a TD04 glanza, and that lag was cope able, i basically just want reminding when does a td04 reach its max boost?? trying to compare the lag time with my past experience!!

mx5s have like what, 1.6 and 1.8 twincams etc.

You can infact use this turbo if you do a FE3 stroker engine. Engine power good for around 450-500hp with like 15psi boost.

i recon go for it, im going to be using a similar sized turbo on a project in the next few months.
if its to laggy then raise the rev limit and introduce some nitrous

well ive been told at 12 psi, which is the max boost pressure the engine will take stock ill be running around 240bhp at the wheels so what 270-280bhp at the fly??which is also pretty much on the limit!! if the lags not too bad and it blows ill just throw some forged parts in there!!

Im worried that the lag may be a bit of a handful on a rwd though but ill just have to alter my driving style to suit

lol! raise the rev limit and introduce some nitrous, that should be the answer for every engine question! And a gt30 will be laggy, is it worth that lag for 240bhp? find a smaller blower and save the gt30 for a forged build?

I personally cant see the point in running a GT30 @12PSI especially on a 1.6.... That turbo is designed to run much higher boost so i would go for a smaller one unless your looking at 400BHP..... Thats gona lag then snatch instantly on an MX5.. A 28 RS would be ideal i reckon.

Totally agree its a complete waste of time.

ah re-read 12psi part. it will still make a fair whack of power but wont be in its efficency range at that boost level so the lagg will outweigh the performance increase unless u are happy to cruze around all day slowly and chop a few gears to get some power when needed.

well i might try and get a swap for the turbo i was just after opinions!! basically i bought it because i got it cheap from a mate needing some quick cash!! i will definitely make money on it or hopefully be able to swap for something like a GT2860!!
