+1 for the liking them. More light, less electrical drain. Who can ask for more. Just make sure you get a real ballast.

but what do u mean about getting a "real" ballasts?

6000k is the brightest

not necesary true. they will be the closest to white color. it doesn't necesary mean they will be the brightest... once again, Candela is bright mesurement. Kelvin is color temperature... (even if yes 4000 to 6000°K will usualy be the brightest)

they are all made in china... Bosch & Hella don't do aftermartet kit for the simple reason they are forbidden to use (at least in the USA). they are all fakes...

BTW, I have HIDs as most road have no light in Mauritius... but yeah I'm sorry for those who cross my way :(
mine are 6000°K as I couldn't source 4500°K localy (cause all chavs want 10.000°K so they don't import anything less than 8000°K over here)

I just installed HIDs so I'll post my finding up next month. There's actually a lot to it. Its not just simple plug and play. Some of what is said is true within a certain context.

HID's can't be used on any Starlet because it is not fitted with a headlight washer or autoleveling system, a requirement for HID fitment.

However, the Quadlight is the only Starlet that can take HID's correctly with minimal scatter due to the projector style dipped beam lens. Mk1/2's and Glanza's don't have the correct lens, so the light will scatter, causing dazzling to other road users and MOT failures.

Much like this...

My HID’s are the best mod I have ever done to my car…. the difference it has made is unreal…

Not just because the standard ones where so crap to start of with, my ex’s 200sx had them fitted and they also made a hell of a difference.

As for them being an MOT failure that’s not 100% right as some of them do have a beam patter and will pass an MOT.

The only down fall I have found with then is when its foggy I cant see shit

First piece of misinformation, the higher the color temperature the LESS light. The higher numbers just look cooler.

HID's can't be used on any Starlet because it is not fitted with a headlight washer or autoleveling system, a requirement for HID fitment.
There are many FACTORY JDM cars that have HIDs which are not equipped with those systems. headlight washers are a European trend, not used anywhere else much. You can purchase Mazda Demios, Honda Fits, and Yaris with factory option HIDs. My mother's Ipsum has HIDs.

The only requirement for HIDs is reflector style lights otherwise know as crystal style. The Zenki EP91 comes with reflector headlights (clear) and refractor fog lamps. In a refractor lamp the lens is used to disperse the light using angular shapes. I have a 96 EP91 with such fog lamps. I realized that the lamps were designed to spread the light outwards. This made the HIDs point outward and away from the wanted central focal point. What I did was first swap the bulbs around to get the focal point centered, then I adjusted the fogs down, with the little adjusters on them, downwards. Works fine. The only problem I've had is condensation and this is because I drive through fog a lot and the boots were ruined in the installation.

I have 6000k H3s on the fogs and dual 4300k H4s on the headlights. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZ2pS18jJTc

I'm very surprised with your FOG Kelvin choice. why not doing the oposite ? 4300°K in foglight and 6000°K in headlight?
why such high kelvin in the FOG place ? don't you have fog where you live aswell ?

@ hardcoreep-ur from jamaica?

@ others- in the US 3000k (yellow)is ideally used for fog lights, pointing white light ay white for tends to make no sense, even a purple 10000k+ will do a better job against fog than 6000k, BUT 3000k is brighter so functions better for that purpose:)

I drive very fast at night so the combination of the both provide excellent high speed lighting. I don't only use the fog lamps for fog. Just like you azerty street lights once outside the town are rare. I had the initial problem as you expected, but I refocused the fog lamps to the road. The Headlamps provide a far forward throw while the fogs provide wide peripheral mid light.

One of the things we do in Jamaica is dip the bright lights. For me with low HID H4s this means turning off my lights so that cars in the passing lane don't get dazzled and crash into me. In this situation the wider shorter brighter throw on the H3 fogs is an advantage.

Nice read ;) I hope it will help new customers to buy good kits on first hit !

you mention Lumens in your article, I mentioned Candela previously. I don't know the real difference betwen the two. Both are brightness mesurement anyway. I think the lumens does also take consideration of distance and angle from source light, is that right ?

The lumen can be thought of casually as a measure of the total "amount" of visible light in some defined beam or angle, or emitted from some source.
