HKS FCD EP82 hesitating

Hi guys,

Ive used the search function and googled all sorts to try and figure out my problem but to no avail, so posting here to try come up with a solution

Just installed HKS FCD using the EP82 wiring diagram into the ECU and plug next to it.

Counted the pins and spliced into the wires that needed splicing and cut and joined the FCD to the sensor wire as per the diagram.

All checked twice before start up.

Went to start the car and it fired right up first turn of the key. FCD set to 8.

When I press the accelerator is hesitates, drops revs and then the revs go up as normal

When underload the car is very hesitant and boosts up rubbish and stutters and splutters up the rev range.

Does anybody know whats going on or is the FCD buggered? Ive wired up the sensor wire like the diagram says having the yellow wire connected to the senor wire first as it comes out the ecu and the white connect to the other half of the loom

Are there different types of FCD? mine came with a STD on the box

cheers for any help guys

The STD is correct for your car so no worries there.

So long as the connections are correct and secure there shouldn't be an issue there either, had some banter with one a few weeks ago thanks to the splicing skills of the installer. You would usually get hilarious starting and idling issues if the signal wasn't getting to the ECU.

The FCD reduces the signal from the MAP (boost) sensor to the ECU. The setting dial on it increases the effect on the signal. It essentially makes the car run leaner so you may find the signal has been reduced too much. There's no simple internet-sourced 'correct' setting to use as each car and engine setup differs wildly so these should be set up in conjunction with a wideband to avoid severe engine damage.

With that wideband you can check the FCD is in fact working as you will see the AFR alter at idle as you change the setting.

In terms of basic fault finding I would set the FCD to 12 which is it's OFF setting then see if the car runs as normal. If it does then it's probably the setting.

Thanks Jay,

Just ordered a AEM wideband.

Thinking of even going to a new ECU now. This type of tuning seems a bit stone age with the FCD and FPR.

Fun and games :)
