Idle just went downtown!?

Hey Stu, nothing has been added to the car recently. If not it just sounds like a faulty idle valve. Would be worth donoring one across from a working V to check.

Hi Jay, nope nothing new added. How much are the IAC new?

Also for spark plugs I bought a 10mm socket, is this the correct size? cheers

I got some carb cleaner, so i'll try a bit of that tonite.

*Update*

Okay I sprayed carb cleaner into the air inlet while it was idling, several times.

Then took off the IAC and blasted it with carb cleaner too, some black shit came out. Cleaned it up and put it back on.

Tried the engine again, it may be a fraction/tiny bit better, sits about on the first bar on the clock. But nowhere near 900 -1000.

What else could I do?

Cheers

Had a good look around all the connections and wiring?

Checked her for fluid levels?

Inspected intercooler hoses and clips for leaks?

If so it's time to get someone else involved mate. Something is not right by the sounds of it.

A bit wary of idle screws, last time I moved one I destroyed my Suzuki Swift GTi and nobody could fix it!

Would new distributor cab, rotor and sparks help? or just a waste of time.

I checked the oil levels etc, all fine, although I topped the oil up the other day, it was down to just above half full.

No oil leaks anywhere, exhaust emission seems fine. Car runs fine.

Is it possible the IAC is fucked? Unplugging it makes no difference.

yes could b fuced but with it unpluaged should idle fine too. you just need to give some turns to the idle scre on TOP of the throttle body and revs should go up! try that mate you will not fuck anything

the cap on the right of the throttle body? With the gold screw?

Do I turn it clockwise or anti, and how much to turn by?

Also why would the car suddenly drop in idle, is there something else causing this?

And why does it do nothing if I unplug the IAC connection? It stays the same, is this normal?

Anyone got a part number for this item, and cost, I might just get a new one to be sure.

turn the screw anti clockwise to raise idle
but i would get someone to look over it as a sudden drop in idle happened for a reason

Yeah I'm not touching the screw until I know what is wrong, searched all the threads, and there is no definitive answer. But can someone answer this:

Why does it do nothing if I unplug the Idle Air Control connection? The idle does not change, it stays the same, is this normal?

I need to know this, to see if the IAC is fucked.

Does this part no seem okay for an IAC: 17630-11050 (air control)

Cheers lads

Okay, ordered a new Dizzi cap, and rotor from Toyota:

Cap: £20.85
Rotor: £15.15

Will fit on Thurs, when I get them.

Also for reference an air control value (IAC) is: £95 (all vat inclusive)

If they don't make any difference, its going to the garage to be safe. Hopefully its not the beginning of the end...

you can raise the idle revs by adjusting the little screw on top of the throttle body.i had a problem with my revs dropping way too low there last week and i raised them via that screw and there spot on now.just one thing to look into to help your problem.

anybody got a pic of this as mine idles a little high bout 1000-1150 could do with a slight adjustment!! but not sure what the throttle loks like or where it is!!

its located rite on top of the throttle body on the inlet manifold.its under a little back grommet/bung and you cant really miss it.

I spoke to Toyota about this today, and they said its not a great move to adjust this as its factory set, best to troubleshoot the high/low idle fully first.

If the adjustment works then no bother, its just I fucked a car before adjusting this idle, when I moved it up a little it worked for a while, then the whole car died.
