There was a major missing in car today, checked it that was a faulty spark plug wire, now i can't find stock plug wires here, even im planning to get a td04 with all supporting mods so want to know what type of ignition leads i need ? 8mm ? which spark plugs will fit in 4efte ?

any leads will do. just buy new and they will be fine.

as for the plugs, just some heat range 7s will be fine. set the gap to 1mm. most people go for these: NGK BKR7EIX

i think you can get them pre-gapped. they have a suffix after the part number, 11 is 1.1mm which is correct for an earlier 4efte. ive been told 0.9 is for the later ones so 1mm is a good compromise. most of the time they come with the correct gap for most applications anyway.

Four NGK plug wires for a 1995 Toyota Paseo and a coil wire for a 1996 Toyota Camry and you will be good to go.

I've changed the plug wires, now there is no missing at idle, accelerates good through all gears but one thing i've notice that it is bogging down after 6k rpms, its happening in all gears, and sometimes it misfire/backfire too, its a stock engine and fpr is set at 3.2bar,(running it a bit rich) before replacing the faulty plug wires fuel pressure was same as it is now, so its not about the fuel pressure, and no missing through out the rev range until 6k rpm , pulls smooth until reaching 6k rpm... anyone know what is the problem ?

Hi mate,

Did you replace the plugs yet?

It's possible the one on that faulty lead could be fouled enough to cause issues. If not that you could be experiencing something random, a quick check of the fault codes could help us advise better.

Knock sensor is faulty for a long time, i have'nt replaced it coz everyone says it doesn't retard the timing when it detects knocking so there is no point in getting a new knock sensor... check engine light comes up when ever i rev past 2.5k rpm i've check the fault codes it is showing a faulty knock sensor code, can the knock sensor be the issue behind bogging down after 6k rpm ? but before it was running all good even with faulty knock sensor never had issue like this.

In a word yes.

From what I've seen in the past the ecu will restrict performance if it doesn't get a good signal from the knock sensor. Always thought it pulled the timing back but I've never measured it myself. Would be worth getting it sorted to see if that's (part of) your problem.

sort the knock sensor and it will go like a rocket. it drives crap with the knock sensor not working.

I've checked the spark plugs(NGK R BKR6EY) they were tan in colour around the tip and they had some oil residue around threads, cleaned them with sand paper put them back and now the car doesn't bogs down at higher revs, its back to normal. im worrying about the oil residue around the threads, is that a sign of bad valve seals ? compression results are satisfactory 150psi in 3 cylinder and 145psi in one cylinder...
Here is the image of spark plug when i took it out :

you cleaned your plugs with sandpaper!!!!!!!?

wouldnt worry about the threads. thats pretty normal.

it looks like your plugs are pretty worn out. there seems to be quite a bit of build up on the plug too. i would stick some new plugs in.

SORT THE KNOCK SENSOR OUT. trying to source an issue with the engine when you have a known issue is a waste of time.
