Intake air temp sensor

Does anyone know if there is a sensor in the air box filter?
Got an aftermarket filter with the hole for the air temp sensor but cant find any on the Glanza? Does it has the sensor or should I just fill the hole?

just for referrence. there is a air temp sensor, it is on the inlet plenum

As Dunc says there is one on the Glanza and GT 4efte engines.

The 4efe n/a engines have the air temp sensor in the stock air box, its a long pointy black thing (Toyota technical description there), thats probably what the holes in there for so as Idress says it will need blocked up.

My only concern is if its a filter for a Starlet,it must be for a 4efe engine, will it be big enough?

If its not for a Starlet, it should not be a problem.

What happens if you dont connect the sensor and run the engine?

Reason why I'm asking is that I want to get a new filter, but there is no space to put the sensor in the filter im looking at.

cheers,

will run with a predicted temperature which will make the car run rich to be safe. will use more fuel. can you not just get a different filter or just make an adapter out of a bit of pipe so you can fit it in?

cheers for the quick info.

I tried idling the engine for a while without the sensor, the gas fumes smelled so strong.
That explains it.

I'll look for some kind of adapter, thanks.

Do you know what the black box does just after the filter at the bottom of the air line going to the intake mani?

at a guess, its the carbon canister. its to do with the fuel tank vent emissions.

get a pic then i can tell you for definite

What would happen if I would remove it? Surely if you have an induction kit with the stainless steel pipe that that wouldn't fit in?

Thanks for the info!
So that's only like a "muffler" then for the intake?

You deserve some rep;)

Maybe it actually does something...
found this from another site, makes sense tbh.

The intake resonator on my Honda Civic EX (1994) VTEC is designed that
way for a GOOD reason!!!! The japanese, who designed it, went to
school for many years.... they didn't just say.."Well... let's just
stick this big piece of plastic on the front of the car, just for the
hell of it... even if it hurts performance." They designed it for a
reason. Without it, the intake doesn't RESONATE! It's tuned very
specifically for the engine... it sets up a vibration, just like
blowing over the top of a big plastice bottle does. (Try it, you'll
see what I mean)... the engine sounds meaner and has a "kick" to it
WITH THE RESONATOR IN PLACE! If you remove it, the kick disappears,
and so does the "roar" of the engine.

The snorkel is placed exactly at the seam in the hood, where cooler air
gets into the compartment while driving, so NO NEED for a
cold-air-intake! (Gee.. those jap's are smart!)

The resonator DOESN'T make the intake quieter... it makes it RESONATE,
like a musical instrument! The intake valves like it that way... the
whole intake system likes the vibes it sets up.

Blow across the top of an open plastic bottle ... you'll see what I
mean. Make that plastice bottle resonate and feel the vibes!

he has a point, but his reasoning is crap. the intake is tuned on alot of cars. most of the time it is for noise reduction, but can be performance related.

my 1.25 zetec fiesta had quite an elaborate intake setup. that did make a slight difference in the performance. felt flatter with the boxes removed.

like i said. tried it on my girlfriends starlet and it made no noticeable difference to the noise or performance.

if your fitting an aftermarket filter your upsetting the whole balance anyway so removing parts like that have less effect.
