Little help/advice in sourcing a DECENT MK1?

Well after not having a starlet for 9 months iv decided i quite miss it. Although i wouldnt go back to using one as a daily driver, i'd like a standard mk1 gtt to clean up and keep for best i.e weekend driving (when the weather allows) and shows. Not really interested in modifiying it much at all. Maybe just the odd suspension mod and a set of wheels.
Now my problems start with actually finding one, with several weeks of searching in the uk and the few car sites i know of in japan i have literally found nothing. Does anyone no of anyone in japan or the uk i can speak to about getting a good one over? or soes anyone know of any mk1s in the uk that arent to bad shape maybe need a bit of work that i could buy?

Join the queue mate, im also looking out for a Mk1. i'm constantly looking through adverts etc, i would even mine if it had no engine or even a gearbox... but as long as everything else is mint or there abouts id take it. one that i was due to buy early this year (a two tone one) was exactly what i wanted and told the seller im coming for it, 2-3days later i ring him to be told that the car had been sold to a young block in herts. Saw it in the cineworld carpark 6 months later and the guy has completely trashed it.... broke my starlet heart that did.

If anyone see one worth saving let me know please, as ive got my fingers crossed for xmas time.

Sheldon- yes i would consider Malta the only problem i would have is the price really they seem to demand a higher premium over there, why is that? also a friend got a mk1 escort from malta last year and he did have a fair bit of trouble getting it over and all sorted out, not sure exactly what happened though.

D3N0- They seem to have dissapeared all of a sudden really, it wasnt even 18 months ago that there used to be some semi decent ones for sale. Yep thats what happend to my quadlight sold to a friend who blew it up fixed it and sold it to some kid who basically rallied it everywhere and ruined it, real shame i see it from time to time makes me want to cry lol, its really frustrating though just want one to save it from the breakers yard really and i enjoy working on them but its starting to look quite impossible lol

Yeah prices are very different from yours. A decent mk1 can go for 9keuro. But they got nothing to do with uk ones... Not dissing the brits, but you wonr find a starlet with corrosion and rust over here

They are few and far between now days.
I have a rather sorry one sitting in the backgarden but it's a non-runner at the moment.

Yea they certainly are!
On a side note what's the situation with the one in your garden then? Bodywork any good? Why won't she run? Would you part with it ;-)

Tell me about it, I'm actually converting a cheap mk3 to a mk1 for Rab because he can't find one worth having.

Ted that is exactly what i want in my mk1 (if i ever get one), bet you miss it?
i did look on donedeal.ie i wouldnt have a problem going to ireland to get it my only reservation is that if the car turn out to be rubbish iv wasted time and money getting there etc.
May start talking to import garages in the next few weeks to see if they can find me anything in japan thats suitable.

The one which is in my garden the cambelt has split and it needs an exhaust system. The paintwork is generally poor all over with light damage to the rear below th o/s light. I bought it as I didn't want to see it scrapped but have yet to do much to it as I live two hours away from where it's parked. Its solid and original make me an offer if your interested as I've been getting moaned at lol.

do miss the look of it. my ep85 has greater ability but for sheer looking in the driveway and being happy mk1 does it for me.

there is one on ebay just a rolling shell, only engine an box missing....

Yea iv seen that one my only problems with it is the fact it has rot on the rear arch which looks quite bad. And its a very long away from where I live to go and see it!

yer i seen the rust on the rear, i have just asked aload of questions as i might get it, its only an hour or so from me...

I want to see it first tho befor i buy it...

Yea defiantly give it a good check over, when I've looked at any other gts with rust on the arches it's generally a lot worse on the cabin side to the extent where you will probably want to cut a lot of the quarter out to save it. So if you do go look at it just bear that in mind. Another thing that put me off a bit was the advert itself the guy couldn't even use grammar etc,
If you do go see it let me know what you find and good luck with it if you get it :)
