hi all ive got a 1997 1.8 carina i was out driving earlier and everything was fine, went to go out half an hour ago and the car just turns over and will not fire, i think that it may well be immobiliser related.anyone any ideas on how i might be able to bypass the immobiliser or reset it some how.

any input would be helpful

cheers james

sound like fuel or spark related, did you check fuel lines, plug leads and if any fuses are blown?

if theres an alarm in it with immobiliser in it turn it off with the key and try again?

the alarm and immobiliser are seperate.the immobiliser works off the key with a transponder unit and the alarm works of a key fob.my daughter was chewing my keys and throwing them round earlier aswell so i think it may have something to do with that,on a better note i may well have found a solution if not it will be a trip to the auto electricians and leave them sort it out.i will keep you updated.

Its either like said spark/fuel problem or immobilizer.

Best thing for immobilizer would be to take it to an alarm specialist. Thats all i can suggest anyway.

Before hand do all your basic checks for spark/fuel.

ive sorted it now i think the problem was my daughter chewing my keys yesterday i left the key dry last night and it started this morning going to take it to have the immobiliser removed next week.

going to take it to have the immobiliser removed next week.

I'm pretty sure the immobiliser is integrated into the engine ECU, so it may not be so easy as just removing it. You could tape an original key to the transponder and then hide the whole lot up under the dash somewhere.
