low beams on quad headlights

Hi guys, I own a 95 ep82 starlet with the quad headlights and i've come to replace the bulbs.. Now, the bulbs I've taken out are HB3/9005 (bulbs have 2 male guides), which were a pain to get out. On one side, the plug has been replaced and obviously fits the HB3 perfect, but on the other side it looks like its still the factory plug which looks to suit a HB4/9006 (bulbs have 1 male guides) which has been shoved onto an hb3 as the guides on the plug are mushed. So, I thought it was logical that HB4's were supposed to be in there originally so I bought HB4 bulbs aswell as plugs. But the HB4's wouldn't fit.. the plastic arms are different. I can just buy HB3 plugs and then put them in but they aren't easy to put in either. The HB3 were simple to put in the high beams, but not the low beams- but they can still go in nontheless.. So I want to know if anyone knows what are supposed to be in there?

Thanks

HB3 9005 outer (Dipped)

Toyota part number
90981-13053 inside (close to grill)
90981-13054 outside (close to turn signal)

I once bought aftermarket hb4 bulbs and they didn't fit for me either. I ended up getting the genuine bulbs from the dealers and those went in no problems.

Damit. I dont want genuine because i want whiter bulbs. I suppose i'll just have to make do with hb3s.. i'll try hb4s again tho. Thanks guys

If you file down the lugs to match the Toyota version it should fit fine. The genuine ones are around £20 each so well worth doing to save some pennies.

That sounds awesome. It's strange how it will only fit genuine HB4's and not aftermarket though isn't it? But I'll give that a go. Thank u

yes even i had to file away the circular part with the rubber O-ring so that it fits into the headlight socket. This is what you have to do to fit aftermarket ones. but the problem is that its quite hard to get it to lock into place. sometimes the bulb holder pops out of the headlight and it once burnt away some wires nearby due to the heat generated.

I figured it would work if I did a bit of a "collyfox" as well but in the end I decided not to bother. It would have been worth a try as the genuine replacements were MUCH more expensive than the aftermarket bulbs.
