I've seen a mazda 323 4x4 (1999) for sale and im really tempted..its the 1.8 running 220 bhp with a hybrid turbo. i already have a gt turbo but really tempted to buy this.looks really nice. I was just wondering if any one has any previous experience with one of these or no what there like? reason im tempted is because moneys tight right now and i really cant afford to put much into my starlet to get it to that spec and the insurance is way cheaper for it.
any advice on it would be apreciated?

no experiance.. but i hear they are knowing for breakin the middle drive shaft under the car and they are a pretty hard part to get id say as the car is so rare.. but i think you can get pulsar 4x4 shaft to fit ?? if it went wrong like..
my friend had the 1.5 D.O.H.C 323 and it was a very good car never let him down once and a nice car too:)

had a quick google after seeing this thread on another website and fell in love with them straight away, rare = hard to get and expensive parts but it would be well worth owning one just for the experience.

A friend of mine has 2 off them a gtr and a gtx
gearbox are supposed to be a bit soft there not able for launching or donuts
they're really nice handling but not really that fast not much faster than a good starlet
they're hard on petrol better of save the money and keep the starlet

yeah after looking around and doing some research iv decided not to go for it. iv seen a few starlets with a bigger spec going for good prices on pistonheads at the mo so think il just save up for one of those. cheers for advice :)

that advert seems really dodgy lol...cus that dont look like a 1999 car to me lol looks like the mazda 323 gtr which i think was made up until about 1995?

and if it is just a typo, then i wouldnt bother, never had one myself but had a look at them years ago and heard loads of feedback on them having bad gearboxes and drivetrain. plus the parts are rarer than rocking horse poo literally...can be very quick tho with a few mods 300bhp is very possible. but be prepared if something breaks.

If its the Mazda 323 GTX/GTR then there pretty rare, hard to get parts for, hard to get performance parts for, gearboxs can be pretty weak but im a fan of them. My mate had a GTR running 300bhp, went to put the car into reverse and lost 3 gears, took him a while to source a good box also.

I ve had a 323 gtx in the past and the gearbox's go very easy alot of people go for a gt4 conversion tho as it near imposible to find a repalcement box.
