Righ EP goers...

What is the most common MOT failure?

What have you or someone you know been denied an MOT for?

List anything you can as an area of concern now matter how big or small

Reason i ask is i have to go through a pretty tough registration test for my Mk1 GT and anything to fail on... they will fail it!

Cheers :)

Underside bushes front and back,
Engine mounts,
torn/ripped cv joint gators,
Emmission,
Screen wash function,
wipers,
Fog lights,
headlights/breaklights/indicators,
wheel bearings, ball joints. track rods,
tyre tread,
handbrake tension,
Brake bias,
Horn,
Dash lights,
Chipped windscreens,
seatbelts,
Suspension,
rust,

I have failed many cars or given an advisory on all of the above.
Im sure i might have missed a few things out but they are the main things I can remember.

dont know if this is a noobie question but will having good ignition parts ie dizzy, plugs and leads and filter reduce the emissions as this is going to be the biggest test of the car i think?

alternatively what is the best way to reduce the co2?

None of mine ever came to close to failing emissions.. Strange. My niggle with testers was always around EPs not coming standard with side repeaters on the wings.. Pain in the ass to get the car through some times

Here is my list

The funny one - ages ago - failed because the indicator was LOOSE - No kidding, I went home put the duct tape over it and passed through -)))))))))))) That was ages ago on my old starlet!

Other things could be
Leaking shocks
Blowing exhaust
Rear Foglight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Headlights adjusted too high......

Oil leaks - also that would depend on the garage/tester - some say a little leak - like a drop a day it's a pass...

The car being too low - can be a fail as well

Now there is something about the Air Bag lights and if the cat is present, also they want to change it next year I heard about it - want to make it even worse, but it's shouldn't affect US a lot, as the new changes will be about additional sensors...

Oh - almost forgot - seized rear calipers - very common fail for out starlets!!!!

" Instead of a separate lamp, the side repeater might be part of the front direction indicator if it includes a wraparound lens. "

That is what apply to our cars!!! In fact you can still see an indicator flashing if you're facing side of the car.

Ano... But its still a pain in the ass trying to get through to some testers about this, they've tried telling me a few times its not the correct E marking for being a side repeater
