One round my way was running a td04 at a bar of boost on stock internals only lasted a year saw him at the side of the road with oil pouring out the bottom lol 177bhp it was running pretty sure it was 177 something like that.

Really miss mine. I only had a stock 1.6 n/a with decat, filter and increased base timing. Was a fun little car and I do wish I never sold it. Still going strong though, hasn't had one problems since selling it!

Will hopefully get the chance to get another one day :)

I'm not suprised it only lasted that long then, that figure is awful for that boost. The worst I've heard. You need to remember that the 1.6 engine was designed for a turbo and take to it very well if you set it up properly. On the 1.8 engine the highest I know is 323bhp on standard internals before it went boom, and that was after extensive track use.

As with most things, its all about the tune!

Trevor/starlet_sam, or anyone else....

who knows what about 1600cc mx5 engines and what sort of boost etc they can take before it becomes dangerous?

looking at a little Mx5 with a greddy k26 turbo kit on it, 1600 stock engine though, so what sort of power is possible without a forged engine?

and is it a setup to be avoided or embraced?

Phil

Phil, just reread this, a Greddy K26 kit? I've never heard of such a kit, any pics or links?

Ah, TD05! Looks alright mate. The Greddy downpipes are known for being shite and restrictive but upgrades are available. Make sure the manifold has relief cuts or they can crack and I'd be interested to see what management it has. Could be a good base for higher power though.
