Sorry to hear about your car, it sucks when they go wrong :( . I saw a truck today pumping out white smoke as it was carrying tonnes of dirt, and my friend said it was oil that was burning  if thats any help.

put some leak test dye in the cooling system, this will determine if the cooling system is getting contaminated, and could mean headgasket.

if it was oil burning it should be blue smoke, so i dont think you have many problems there.

did you replace the PVC valve when you rebuilt the engine, apparently this can cause it to puff white smoke.

also do a compression test just to make sure.

i'm sure it will be nothing to worry about.

A broken pcv valve will cause blue smoke as it is supposed to act at a 1 way valve if it is broken then oil and oil vapour will leak into the inlet manifold causing blue smoke.

Is your car using any water or oil? Any driving/starting problems?

How much smoke are we talking about?

The only real way you can get white smoke is from headgasket failure, A cracked block from a waterway to a cylinder, or a crack in your turbo leaking water in to be burnt but that is unlikely.

^ as Turbodave said,

This was the problem on my old gt, its dirt cheap to change and is good as a starting point...

also - i got lots of WHITE smoke with my broken PCV valve if i revved when idle (lightly) and if i revved hard or drive hard, it would puff a lot of white (unburnt oil?) and a little blue... (as burning oil would suggest) - don't know why, but these are the facts :)

Just unplug the hose on the inlet manifold from the pcv valve and block it up leaving the pcv valve to vent to atmosphere and not the inlet mani that will rule it in or out. :)
