cable or adsl mate ?

If your problem has only happened after an upgrade then read below as iv had problem before.

If your on adsl and on 10mb sometimes they set a thing called "interleaving" suppose to be stable things out but it doesnt on some occasions.

I had the same problem, i upgraded to 8mb and things just went crazy from there. i would lag out in counter strike, ping spikes randomly. WHen i downgraded back to 2mb it was running fast as ever.

Also you could always ping to a destination to see where your lagging out from.

Cheers mate, I'm running blue yonder (virgin) Cable broadband which always use to be fast and reliable but now seem's to be slower at times, the main problem's have been fixed but now and then it's like the internet totally freeze's eg refreshing servers in counter strike it won't find any and may take 3 - 4 attempts! :(

Ive got a linksys one and its really hit and miss, sometimes its great but other times i have to plug in the faithful ethernet cable.

Everytime i turn off the system it resets everything and i then spend the next half hour on the phone to some call centre in America while they reset the password.

My advice is.......Get a different router!!!

what u want to do is do a ping test to 1 of there ip. that way it will show u where your pining out (laggin out). and then you know its there end and not urs!

ill ring them up mate

but that wouldnt stop online gaming working. Dont get me wrong Ive seen very weird things happen with routers and cabling, even seen a fan in a room take out the signal enough to kill a connection so I am always acutely aware of environmental issues etc but I would generally start stripping away hardware if possible as it is something you can do on your end.... wait around to get lines tested etc is a nightmare.

No you're right.

Wasnt sure if it was an issue isolated to just online gaming or a wider problem. That was the reason for the questions.

Glad he's sorted it anyway.
