Service Parts

Just out of interest does anyone notice a difference between genuine Toyota service parts and OEM spec ?

Just been flicking through different websites and seems mixed reviews, the nearest Toyota to me is 35 miles away, although Jay has offered to picked some parts up for me for my service.

Cheers

Myself I prefer to use non genuine parts. 1, its cheaper and 2, I cant tell the difference from using the manufactures brand or aftermarket brands.

What I can tell though is my oil stays cleaner for longer, becuase the oil is better quality than the car manufactures.

My airfilter is washable K&N so I dont really need to worry about spend cash there.

Brake fluid I use is DOT4 or 5 and not DOT3 that Toyota recommend.

For gaskets and non serviceable parts I try to stick to genuine but price is what drives that decision.

Thats just me :)

I prefer to use genuine.

Had bad experiences with 'oem equivalent' parts before.

If you look at oil filters for example the differences can be unseen but they are there.

Genuine where possible, OEM sec ones are always cheaper but Genuine quality is 100%, and fitment is also.

Depending on the price for the parts, things like ball joints etc I just use blueprint as Toyota ones are expensive, depends on your cash flow. For engine parts I use Toyota.

OEM filters are about £3 here, or £8 from Toyota (filter inside the casing is larger in toyota version, so lasts longer etc).

There is way better technology going into after market components.
Any reputable brand > OEM
Think of it this way. How many stuff do after market manufacturers have?
They are constantly seeking better methods for better quality products. Using better materials etc.

Ah but he's talking about OEM quality items not performance items.

For example, look at the oil filter. A £10 Toyota one is designed to do the job at a price. A £5 Blueprint one is designed to do a job for less which means lesser quality materials and workmanship. A £20 HKS oil filter is designed to do the job better using higher quality parts and a higher control standards.
