Starlet Over-Revving

Hey guys,

not sure if i have this in the right section and if not sorry but my starlet is just sitting reving at 2000 revs when the clutch is in, like when im stopped at traffic lights etc it sounds as if its really struggling and some times he will just rev between 1000 and 2000 as soon as the clutch is in....anyone know how to fix it and is it expensive?

does it not do it when the car is just idleing normally? (in neutral with clutch out)

check the stepper motor (idle control valve) its on the left hand side of your inlet manifold and theres 2 bolts holding it in if i remember right, (10mm socket) here's a guide anyway

As above,and have a look for any vacuum leaks around the inlet manifold. Sounds like its hunting.

Sounds like a vacuum leak Jade, but I have been wrong in the past.. Have a listen around the engine bay for any hissing noises, you might spot it if you are lucky. Replace anything you suspect of leaking.

If it's idling weird pay particular attention to the inlet manifold and all connected hoses. That's where I found the last few leaking.

thanks jay ive emailed chris carson from around my way to see if he can help me with it cause i dont really want to do it myself incase i wreck something so hopefully he can help me sort it
