it was the early scooby engines that suffered with engine problems, they were too soft internally but that got sorted after a few years, also very very thirsty on fuel aswell

i have just bought a subaru couple of months back and hasn't given me any problems yet always a pleasure to drive (except for when the fuel gauge borders empty), don't have much knowledge on them scooby.net would be the best place for info as many on their own the sti type ra. many people will say a subaru is crap but its all a matter of personal opinion, i haven't had any problems with mine but have heard engines going after a hard top end thrash. its the same with any car treat it right and it will be fine, abuse the car beyond it's limits and you wil no doubt damage the engine. my advise would be if your planning on doing motorway mileage your better of with a wrx sti as the type ra's are limited top end, however if its a weekend car go for it considering the car is in good condition and you have had it checked.

all this crap about one being faster than the other doesn't really prove nothing as subaru do not claim to be the fastest nor do any other make, the car is what it is and i appreciate a subaru for being a relatively fast car with great handling (again my opinion)

Well get ur self on a subaru forum then and ask them

many people ask about other marques on this forum as many people tend to move on from starlets to high performance cars. I suggest you leave this thread seeing as you began a pointless debate which the thread starter did not ask for. He wanted opinions on the car, not which is the fastest.

why dont you go on a subaru forum and tell them that impreza's are slow.

if you have only shite to say dont say anything atall!!

you dont HAVE to comment on this thread.

thanks :)

to be honest i haven't read this much bullshit on TGTT for ages, GTi-R's, Evos, Imprezas....they all have their good and bad points! thats what makes them appeal to diffrent people! would be a bit shit if everyone drove around in the same car!

However it's almost eye watering to read the same old chocolate piston/gearbox bollocks in a thread that started out asking for peoples opinions, not for negative copy & paste replies from other forums!

Aaron if you are thinking of an impreza you should go for a sti type-r. 2 door impreza's look great. My impreza hasn't been the most reliable but was not standard and i have taken it on the track and generally thrashed it about. It was also used as my daily driver. I have driven a quite a few evo's, skylines, pulsars etc but none of them put a smile on my face like a good impreza does.
Regarding AWD I dont use them anymore. (U2U me if you want more info) Checkpoint are good for impreza's and fairly local for you, but if you look after an impreza it will last forever. (check the JD power survey)

And for all these people who go on about evo's why do you want to drive a modified Proton?

Probabley best mate. The price of fuel is mad and my scoob can only get at best 15mpg.
Is it the heavily modified one on pistonheads?

Barry.

i know what you mean about the smile on the face, i contemplate getting rid of the subaru even though it is near enough standard and replacing it with something sensible, but the minute i take it for a drive i realise why i love it so much. been in an evo5 loved it, amazing car but for handling and smile factor the subaru appeals more to me (again my own opinion) what i would suggest is take a subaru for a drive if you like it and the car is in mint condition then go ahead and buy it.
with the reliability factor its the same as any other car modify it sensibly without cutting corners and the car will last as long as you want it too, abuse the car and it will end up screwing you up the A**

hope you got all the info you need :) hopefully this would be a good starting point to start up on ur research http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/SidcFaq/SidcFaq
