TERCEL1: HKS fuel cut defencer...

Here's my question(s)...

I have, in my 1989 Tercel, an EP91 engine and right now, I have the HKS
actuator set for about 13.5 psi... from time to time (depending on the
coolness of the air) I'll hit fuel cut when I stand on the accelerator.

I've also purchased an HKS FCD and would like to install it so the above does
not happen! I'm not interested at trying to squeeze 14 or 15 psi out of the
CT9 turbo, I just want the fuel cut to be a tiny bit more "forgiving"

My engine is totally stock and will remain that way for a bit longer and it is
presently being controlled by the stock ECU.

As mentioned; not looking for anything more than a bit more "forgivingness"
in the fuel cut department at around 13.5 psi...

How would I go about setting up the FCD? All the instructions are in
Japanese? Would I start with the HKS at its most NORMAL setting (12)
and slowly move it towards CUT until I reached the desired setting at
which 13.5 psi would cause fuel cut but, let's say, 14 psi WOULD?

not sure how to set it as i have never owned one, but im pretty sure when installing one it is not a good idea without some sort of fuel management.

Alf you should have got a Greddy BCC instead of the HKS FCD! the HKS one will lean your fuiling even under fuelcut and the Greddy one will "operate" only just when you are going into fuelcut! so thats what you want :)

Is there a specific Greddy BCC or does one fit all boost applications (unlikely?)

12 = normal fuel cut, so work back from 12 and see at what point you stop hitting fuel cut. On my car, I could boost to 1Bar on setting 9. So I'd imagine 10 might even do for you!

But like the others say, the HKS FCD will lean things out across the entire rev range. So after fitting I'd guess you'd want to stick a wideband in it and see how its affected your fuelling! But the closer to normal the setting is, the less lean it will run - so you might be alright at a high setting! But worthwhile checking it out!

hey alf as long as you got supporting mods in the fuel department ! its recommemded at setting 7 ive ran it at 7 and 9 its just a different voltage the ecu is seeing through the map sensor. set cuts it a 3.44v. and setting 9 cuts it a little but sooner so it safe guards you a little bit more. good luck there buddy

imo a hks one is better ok it leans out the fueling over the hole range when u add a rrfpr it changes the fueling over the hole range too

Indeed. With the clamp type FCD you'll be running super rich below fuel cut because you will need to increase fuel pressure to compensate for the raised boost. Stock fuelling will be kept at boost below fuel cut, but instead of a pressure of 2.4Bar it will most likely be 3Bar!
