The great 5E v 4E timing debate.

If you look at where the tooth next to either timing mark is you can see there is half a tooth different between the marks so how many degrees does that relate to at the crank

Stock timing is 10degrees but you can run 12 static without any problems at all.

hey chris...i'm not too sure about that
here, our gas quality is crap....like 90 oct from what i hear....and increasing base timing has been known to cause detonation in some situations

but i suppose the ecu could be able to pull some timing if tihs is happening

just giving another perspective:cool:

Nice input but tested for long time with shit fuel at around 35 c abitient temp with the stock top mount intercooler in my stock motor and didnt sufer from det at all. And was like this more than a year. (and i let off the pedal from the floor maybe once a month LoL). When i open for first forging the all the parts was clean from faulty signs so i beleive it is safe to share this info. I had try even a litle bit more but just before we put the motor out with no det signs or noise.

NICE chris...good research/info:rockon:

well...i beleive my buddy did it on his ep82...it worked, but some light pinging was noticed in certain conditions
he also did it on "special occasions:haha:" which re reported resulted in improved response/acceleration, but a slight decrese in top end....but for those "special occasions:haha:" it did not matter, as the benefit outweighed the negative for that purpose:p

Totally understood what you talking about and can confirm the improved response/acceleration feeling. Also at this time my top mount ic was permantly under heat soak cause the air duct of the hood was not lined with the cooler.(as i have ep70)

Well my cars being mapped next saturday (5th) its being primarily mapped on the 5E markings, especially now I've realised the 4EFE and 4EFTE are both on the 4E markings blows the whole NA/turbo debate out of it.

If we have time and if we can be arsed we will do 1 power run on the 4E markings, but only if it requires no additional mapping, which I doubt it would.

Yea, it'll be one of the ECC staff operating the car on the rollers. Mapping on the road was just starting to get a bit silly, I need my license for work lol, just not worth it.
