Was it a new turbo?

Did you prime the turbo [ if its a new one] ?

When you take out the turbo, inspect for any oil in intake and turbine side?

Have you connected the oil lines properly?

Is the oil return line flowing well? Is it kinked? [This happened to me once]

took the turbo back out today noticed the hot pipe side of the turbo ( the side that bolts to the intercooler) moves quite easy!! up or down should this move ??

also noticed it looked wet if you looked through the wastegate or down the exhaust housing which could be oil eh ??

sounds like you have been sold a dead turbo.
the compressor wheel (cold side) should not have any play in it.

whod did you buy it off? and are you aware of what revision it is?

very out of balance shaft by the sounds of it if the compressor wheel has alot of play, i bet if you took off the compressor housing the oil housing will be chewed up by the comp wheel, id be getting onto the bloke who sold it to you!

Now that sounds like a totally busted turbo :(
There must be play on any bush bearing turbo, in the region of 0.2mm otherwise it will seiz.
And horizontal play you must not be able to feel or see.
The compressor blades must not touch the housing when you try to force it to touch it.

alright guys sorry explaned badly the bit about the turbo moving , i ment the compresser housing is actually moving the silver snail part of the turbo non of my other turbos have done this is somthing just loose ??? i'm suprised it's f**ked because there is no shaft play the blade's are all mint an there's no crack's in the wastegate, it don't look like it's had a hard life

wouldnt worry about the compressor housing moving bud.. alot romove the key to rotate them for shorter route pipe work to fmic core.. but if its very loose then the big circlip that holds on the housing is missing/damaged?? any pics of the turbo??

i'll try to get some pic's up but no it's not very loose + the big clip is there an looks ok, must be oil seals on exhaust side i'm going to put my old unit back in just to check it's not the car, but i pretty sure it must be a bad turbo. + i'll also add it only smoke's when up to temp not cold is this just cause the oils running thiner when hot ?

cheers fellas all rep'd so far keep the answers coming if you all think of anything i'm missing

also fellas i.ve put a braided oil line on i've noticed it's got alot smaller feed hole than the standard one will this make any diffrence like not enough oil pressure or to much oil pressure ??? or is this just me looking for reasons hoping it's not the turbo lol

i think at the end of the day mate, its the turbo. sounds like someone has had a play about with it and then just sold it on. i would imagine the seal between the housing and the core is missing. they are quite hard to get back on sometimes, remove the seal and it makes it alot easier.
