Turbo boosting problems.. :S

hi guys,

wondered if anyone could shed some light on a problem i am having..

I've searched and searched but nothing jumps out at me with regards to this problem. i've checked all the threads in INFO section... maybe i missed something but i can't seem to find anything on this..

Its a Starlet Glanza V....

I pulled away earlier and my turbo boosted fine but then the car suddenly felt very very sluggish and the engine sounded like a subaru..

Boosting as normal right u 0.8 Bar but it doesn't seem to go any where and it sounds like a scooby, sort of like a rumble vibrating noise.

i spoke to my dad earlier and suggested it could be the wastegate sticking shut.. I remember i had fuel cut issues in my last starlet but this has a JAM ecu running things so fuel cut isn't an issue..

It almost feels as if its stalling.. if i use light throttle i can see it boosting to 0.3 - 0.4 bar and its as smooth as anything, put my foot down a bit further and it bogs down and makes a rumbling / burbling noise.

PLEASE help me.. could it be the waste seized shut ?

the mods to the turbo are : HKS actuator / Stainless manifold 4 - 1 entering turbo and then a decat and a full HKS system. Its been boosting absolutely fine for about 3 weeks now..

any help would be brilliant. even just simple stuff so i can take it somewhere and explain whats happening it almost sounds like a missfire.

Check ignition components, exhaust for any leaks, manifold as the cheap shitty ones are prone to cracking. Failing that a compression test.

Run a diagnostic check first then go from there mate. Might give you a fault code to go on. My initial thoughts would point to the ignition system more than anything else.

More than likely a dodgy ignition lead, possibly water ingress at the spark plug end, or a spark plug breaking down as it's temperature increases.

thanks chaps..

I don't think its running 3 cylinders mate, thats a bit far lol.

will be getting new sparks and new ignition leads for her, i'll take her to clive atthowe this friday hes a very well renowned tuner so i'm sure he'll find whats wrong if the new sparks and ignition leads fix it..

just to note: What heat grade do you guys go for, those that are running more than standard power... or does it make a difference - the more power you have you need higher heat grade... can't say i've ever learnt about heat ratings on spark plugs..

first time this happened me in the trueno it was coil lead going to the distribrutor and second time it happened the lamda sensor had shat itself...id check it over spark wise..leads, plugs etc.

Twas the ignition leads that had failed... almost degraded on themselves lol.

On the dyno it made 103 Bhp.... Then fitted new leads and it made 171.5 Bhp...
