Turbo issues any ideas?

Hi giys been having problems with the car recently..turbo was whining and wasnt boosting at 11psi like it was before only reached around 6psi..but had no smoke..garage looked at it today and i need a new efi pipe as where the dv goes its not sealing properly so leaking boost and that the actuator arm is busted...

My question is would a dodgy actuator arm and boost leak cause a whining noise? I think personally it may be the turbo...

Any ideas?*

EFI pipe is not pressurised so will not leak boost, an inbalance on the turbos shaft can cause a whining noise but more than likely you have a boost leak somewhere, your lower boost could also be due to a weak actuator and the whining/whistling noise could be from where the efi pipe is broken and drawing in air however this is unlikely.

id checkd for boost leaks first lad cause if its not da turbo nd efi pipes ud b depressd...is it top mount r front intercooler on her?? check 2 c if thers excessive amount of play in da turbo?...is ther any oil round da turbo tat wasnt ther before???

theres no oil but the actuator has alot of movement in it..

its a front mount and where the dump valve connects to the efi pipe the bracket has broken so getting a new efi pipe to stop that leaking..

and gonna check the intercooler now..but im pretty sure the actuator is buggered and the efi is leaking air..

EFI pipe does not leak air however it may suck in unfiltered air through it, bin the EFI pipe and get a front mounted air filter you will be much better off.

ive managed to get an efi pipe for now but may look to that in the future..

hopefully this and a new actuator will sort the issue..

cheers rep given

the dump valve doesnt go on the EFI pipe mate.

so your mistaken somewhere. the dump v/v on standard is on the plastic inlet pipe to the top mount.

if youve got a front mount, the dump v'v will be on the piping to it, either hot or cold side.

but doesnt it mount onto the efi pipe?

thats what i mean, i know the pipe goes onto the pipe that goes to the intercooler..

nope

the EFI pipe is the one which goes from your air filter, to your turbo inlet, the gas is then compressed, charged air is then pumped out, via the turbo outlet/top mounted intercooler inlet, on the standard 4efte, this pipe is the one with the "dump v/v" on it, it then goes into the cooler, out, and into the inlet mani and so on.

i dont want to sound patronising, but are you sure you have a Front mounted intercooler.

can you post a pic of your engine bay please?

i dont have a front mount i never said i did lol the efi pipe has a bracket that the valve secures to and then a rubber pipe that goes to the cooler.

i think you will find, you have said so, and makes it confusing.

your hole, is on your turbo outlet, this is your cause, fix this, and then see how the actuator is holding up.

and a tip, a 2p peice fits perfectly in the hole with a bit of superglue.

We all make mistakes dude... lol

Just so im clear the hole that is on the pipe that goes to the cooler has a small hole that goes to the dv? And the hole on tbe efi pipe can be bunged with a 2p coin and i can still run the dump valve

im on ship internet, or i would get you a pic.

Edit- im hunting for a pic, easier to explain with a pic, as i think ive got confuddled with them now lol.

right, the dump v/v pipe i think your on about, is that you have one on the metal piping, turbo outlet, pipe splits into 2, with a pipe for the dump v/v. this is the one that you need to plug, as this is on the boost side of things.

the hole in the EFI pipi, this is where the 2p fits in, sits more or less flush in the little hole, the only reason to plug it is the off chance that a bit of debris can get in, and into the turbine, it wont cause boost issues by itself.

The pipe where the 2p goes does the dump valve not go into that hole then? On my arc valve i have a pipe for the breather pipe on the rocker cover..one that goes to the section that splits into two, why do i need to plug this? Surely the pipe that goes from the dump valve goes onto this pipe?
