turbo my 4efe

yes I know this topic has been covered alott of times but i only see them on ep91

I have a starlet Gi and planning to do a turbo on it. reason why i'm not buying a 4efte engine is because i cant find any in my country, I can buy them on ebay and ship it to here but it will coast about $1800.

My car is a Starlet Gi with a 4 Automatic transmission
Dont know if its the first generation 4efe but the frame number is EP82-0000657
so im guessing it wil have the thick rods same as 4efte
i wanna run it with stock internals if possible with the high compr. pistons try to run it on low boost. also with the stock 4efe ecu (with a unichip Q)

Planing to put the following parts:
*used TD04L turbo
*WEPR Td04 manifold m/s with ext.gate option
*Dastek unichip version Q (reason why the unichip Q is because it's the only one most toyota owners use in here and in my price range0
*gonna try and find a 4efte sump (some say its just bolt on the 4efe, others say it dont)
*fmic from ebay >>http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-H...Parts_Accessories&hash=item35c9382dae&vxp=mtr
* planing on buying second hand 4efte injector of a member here on tgtt

so TGTT members is this do-able?
am I missing more parts ?
or would my engine blow up with this setup

if you want reliability i would go with putting a ct9 turbo on it and running it at about 0.5 bar boost. if you start going td04 its likely not to last long. you could fit a thicker headgasket o raise compression a bit.

you dont need the 4efte sump, you can easily modify the 4efe one, but you are right the 4efte sump would bolt straight on. would be easier if you got a 4efte ecu and map sensor, but if the unichip has its own map sensor you could probably get away with it.

its as do-able as doing it on an ep91 with a 4efe.

hey there i am using a 4efe ( GI ) whit thick rods here is a pic so u can see

i also had to drill a hole tread for the knock sensor

thats the sensor fitted ( a real cunt to do whit engine in car pffff )

i would stick to the above what dacer said about the ct9 i run 12 psi on the gi pistons/rods and its great to drive ur gi rods will have code 241 u

Ran a TD04 @ 6psi on a 4EFE from an EP85 for a few weeks. Fuelling seemed spot on but I would advise you investing a wideband and det cans or get to know someone who already has. High compression engines are more likely to see knock so it's worth monitoring right from the first turn of the key.

The CT9 is a safer option, the same engine has been running almost two years @ 8psi. If you find a 4EFTE sump remember to get the oil pick up with it too. Will make things easier. The Glanza sump and pick up would be ideal as they were improved as part of the EP91 design.

Also worth mentioning your chassis number is the earliest one I know bar one ( a local 1989 GT). A few pics would be nice to see!

what needs to be modified with the 4efe sump ?
because the guy who has the 4efte sump is charging me $150 ($250 with the oil pick up)

if u keep the gi /4efe sump just weld a oil return above the oil level simple as saves u 250 dollars and if u can weld in a baffle if its not there

knock sensor can be used from 5efhe to or ask on the site here for 1 if u cant find 1
