turning a cat into a decat

Can anyone tell me if gutting a cat gives the same performance as a decat? obviously if the restriction isnt there whats the difference? also a gutted cat is cast so is nice and stong wont crack will fit spot on and cost a 3rd of the price of a stainles decat if you get a second hand one?

people do this a lot, and yea its about the same as a decat, but don't forget its a horrible shape and not the same diameter all the way through, so it won't be *quite* as good as a decat...

From people who have gutted their cat then got a proper decat after, I heard that there is a big difference. So you may aswell just buy a decat, they're not that expensive anyway and atleast you've got a cat if you need it for mot purposes.

Buy a decat.

Not only will they have a better flow rate than a cat with it's guts smashed out, they are also a shit load lighter and you won't have to faff about buying a new cat come MOT time (Assuming you have a late GT or a Glanza).

There is a difference between gutting a cat and a proper decat.

If you are trying to save as much money yes you can do it, but it wont give you the performance you are really after.

Yeh Kelly, you are fine, it's anything later than 1st Oct '95 that will have a problem (Hence the "late GT's and Glanza" comment earlier).

As above, if your limited on funds, you have an early GT and you want to get high for an hour then your good to go. Certainly won't hurt and will remove a little restriction. Ideally a decat will give you more but it certainly won't go backwards!
