Valve stem seals

Are there any aftermarket valve stem seals for these cars that last longer than 4 years? Also heard that the rubber compounds are different between inlet and exhaust, otherwise they're identical. Have heard that the Viton ones can be used on both sides.

surely stock ones should last longer than 4 years? viton is good for either side. its is specifically for high temp applications so should be used on the exhaust side if you have different types. probably wont matter too much though tbh

Apparently one of the previous owners ran it that hard that one of the pistons broke into pieces. The head gasket looked like it had been cooked when we rebuilt it, but I never thought the seals would be knackered as they were done in 2007. At least if I do them I know it's all good.

Yeah, I've put my name down for a set from Zisco, they happened to be doing a group buy on superior aftermarket ones...what are the chances?

Currently putting in the Zisco seals, but they don't seem to sit as far down the stem as the Toyota ones. I've pressed down with a socket on them as hard as I dare but it seems that they've gone as far as they can. Can't say whether there was a definite 'click' when they're seated or not, hard to tell. Just don't want to fuck it up if they're not on properly. Help please!

Hi mate. yes thay don't click as the toyota ones do, but you just need to press them a bit whit a socket by your hand and thats it you don't need u press them hard. we never had any problems and we always use them and we have almost sold more than 30 sets whit no problems... Thay are the best seal we have found ..

But I'm unsure how hard to press them. After putting one in until it reached the shoulder of the valve guide it still moved with the valve! So how much further can it go? It can't, simple as that, it sits on the shoulder, doesn't it? I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, but I don't want to go to all this trouble to find that it just pisses oil into the cylinder cos they're not seated properly. I've also found what looks like an o-ring at the bottom of the valve stem machined area. I assume it's left over seal? Should there be any other seals around the valve area other than the stem seals? All of the stem seals I've removed so far have been grey.
