Variable boost on uprated actuator?

Loads of you guys have fitted HKS actuators, I want to know whether or not you can still maintain the hi/lo boost functions with this installed.

Also, what are the differences you all noticed with the actuator. I already fitted an HKS FCD in preparation, is there anything else I should sort in prep for new actuator? (and dont recommend bigger turbo :haha:

Hi/lo is for girls. You cant really use it with the hks actuator. Why did you get a fcd?

You will have to install an aftermarket boost controller to get the hi/low the standard solenoid performs with the standard actuator.

I would not recommend fitting an FCD unless you have got other supporting mods to go with it and have a control to make sure the car is fueling correctly for the boost you want to run.

It's always the first thing folks do when they get an EP, up the boost and not fully understand the damage it causes the engine if not done correctly. Ditch the FCD and just bang the HKS unit on and you should be able to run it at .8 with not to much trouble.

You dont want it to spike to 1 bar or more and not know its done it by removing the fuel cut.

it can be used no problem with the Hi, lo setup. its all in the instruction manual you get, albeit in japanese.

you just T off the pipe, you get all the bits in the kit and it is designed to be used with or without the hi,lo solenoid if you get the HKS one.

it doesnt work as well as the stock actuator does. you tend to get 1 bar hi and about 0.85- 0.9 lo for example.

Well after I fitted my decat/exhaust/air filter I was hitting fuel cut so fitted the FCD. This worked fine and sorted the problem. You can set the HKS FCD so they dont just allow it to fuel to infinite. I also consulted with AFR who saw no issues coming from fitting the FCD to cure this problem.

Has anyone actually had serious problems resulting from fitting FCD and overboosting/underfuelling?

Although you will be quicker if you put some sort of boost controller in there!

yep it = Bang!! you should never allow yor car to underfuel letalone help it to do so!! just buy a fpr (fuel pressure regulator) so the fueling can be checked and adjusted on a rr. the fcd is fine when supported by the correct fueling mods mate. but you must fit an fpr to bring the fueling back to the right level!
