what engine is in my car?

hey dudes i just bought a corolla S 1999 liftback model (bit like a saloon rather than a hatchback). 5dr...runaround etc you know the deal lol. only 47k on it too.

well what i wna know is what engine is it in there 4efe? and how come that this has got independent suspension wheras a starlet turbo which is a hot hatch - doesent lol. why did toyota do this lol.

Can you not see the marking on the engine or the VIN Number?

You can have three types of engines most likely, a 4EFE 1300cc 16v or a 4AFE 1600cc 16v or maybe a 2C-E and that is a 2.0litre diesel

4EFE, it has independent suspension because of the load carrying capability of that boot on it. Had one of these myself, great motor, only problem I had in 5 years was the bit that sticks out the end of the ignition barrel that turned the starter switch got worn and didnt operate the switch. It was like a starter problem but the starter relay was not engaging. A bit of heat shrink round the sticky out bit solved it.
