im currently cacking myself now, had no really problems so far. Wheel bearings have seen better days but thats it really.

Touch all the wood i can find as ive only had her 6 months and cant really afford any major issues. This is why im leaving the engine completely standard.

headgasket, valve stem seals, crank currently leaking, thermostat stuck shut, water leak (dash out job), heater matrix, faulty rad cap, rough running, spark plugs working there way loose, and no a stupidly high idle

but its all worth it when you piss past a snob in a 325 bmw from 60mph to 130mph HA ..lol

modded & thrashed

old thread i know, but can i say that most of the problem children (cars) here are those modded and thrashed around pretty hard..? :)
well, some are downright unlucky but most are the modded ones..

Old thread but useful info.

Just to join in my most annouying break down was the king lead.

1st time - Rubbed through nobaody had a clue what it was ended up being towed home. in the morning got it to my mums garage and figure out it was the air filter rubbing on it and it had gone through after a fews months of the cone being there. this was the night before i was going to pod to get it on the strip so was a bit gutter when it took 3 days to get a lead to me and i had to get a lift to pod. So put on the new lead and moved my filter slightly.

2nd time - cut out in traffic at 5pm on a thursday. Great. had a look sure enough it was the king lead again for the same reason so must not of moved it far enough. so in my suit with dirt up to my elbows i managed to bandge it up with insulation tape to stop it arch-ing as this time it hadnt gone right through. Got me very close to home before giving up again. So this time got a celica king lead from scap yard next day moved the conector closer as they are much shorter then starlet leads but same fitting. so now the filter and lead are no way near each other, job done :)

Stupid really i should of learnt after the first one

I had another king lead fail yesterday Zoe. Knew what it was immediately too lol. Quite a common issue from what I've seen locally.

Thought I'd tell my little story, so

September last year after looking for about 6months for a tidy glanza with a few mods done for sensible money I come across this: tdo4 set up, d2 collies, emanage blue, front mount, some carbon fibre goodies and a few other nice mods, but! Body work not looking pretty, so I think £2500 for this car is good, so I buy the car, after driving it carefully! For 60 odd miles then it starts knocking on the carriageway.

I then decide to go for a forged rebuild as my bottom end had gone badly, anyway I fitted the engine n start running it in, then 2 mapping sessions later, a lot of time in re garage to get it all running right after the bodge of an engine bay I find and new injectors, new engine mounts, new wheel bearings, new hub, rear brake caliper, new brake pads, apexi avcr fitted, manifold welded after it cracked new ht because it was missing under load and 1500 miles on the engine my clutch starts slipping so I decide to buy new LSD gearbox and clutch kit for when it goes, then about 3weeks ago my car starts smoking, bought another tdo4 and fitted that as I thought this was the problem but it's still smoking so looks like I have to get my engine looked at again. Also had some serious bad luck with spraying the car as the weather keeps changing and is not good when you are doing it all outside.

Have probably only done 2000 miles in the car since Iv had it and spent a stupid amount of hours working on it (mrs giving me ear ache for spending so much time and money lol) but I still can't help but love it even tho it's costing me a fortune, hopefully the bad luck will end soon lol, nice to know there are people having the sort of luck and I'm not the only one

@Ted: i recently meshed my turbo with fine gauze but i've been rather startled to read that you hit trouble. how fine was your meshing..? have been running it for about 1.5 weeks with no drama so far..

if your mesh is fine enough to stop particles big enough to damage your turbo then its probably restrictive. better off running an air filter instead

paved

ok. will work on getting one as soon as technically possible, but in the mean time, my roads are all paved/tarmaced so minimal dust. i guess i'm safe.. for a bit.. :)

GT vs. Glanza

@Matt_Seicentos: lol. interesting that you mention this, is it true that GTs suffer more than Glanzas..? that they break down more generally..?

most of my problems have been little things like Wheel bearings however I did at one point have a slipping clutch, cracked standard mani and cracked S/S downpipe. Changed to TD04 (speedvision setup) and that mani cracked pretty quickly. Fan belt snapped as I was driving which ended up in me breaking down lol. Speedvision Head gasket died the first time the engine was switched on after it was rebuilt. Oil seals died by the gear box and cam seal went as well I think? it does do a lot of standing around nowadays! although its also 17 years old so I'm not too harsh on it when it comes to developing problems lol.

bad luck, redefined

maybe your car wasn't driven much before you got it so things kinda fell off it one at a time.. OR.. you are a spirited driver..?

You started an old thread - lets carry on -)

I don't want to start telling my problems at the moment it would take me 10 min to write them down....
